Ravens vs Jets Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Baltimore Ravens -6.5 (-114) -340 O 44 (-113)
New York Jets +6.5 (-107) +240 U 44 (-108)

Odds as of September 9th at Barstool Sportsbook.

Baltimore opened up as 6.5 point favorites, and that’s where the spread currently stands, but maybe not for long. 86% of the against the spread tickets and 86% of the ATS money is backing the Ravens, which means it’s only a matter of time before this line gets to -7.

The total meanwhile, sits at 44 which is down half a point from where it opened. The betting splits are currently even on the over and the under, suggesting we shouldn’t see further movement.

Baltimore Ravens Betting Analysis

All the talk around Ravens camp this week is about Lamar Jackson’s contract status. The 2019 NFL MVP and Flacco’s former back-up, set a deadline of Friday to get a deal done but no progress was made. He’ll now play out the final year of his deal at a $23 million price tag.

Baltimore wants to run the ball first and foremost, and may need to lean heavier on Jackson than usual on Sunday for that. Staring RB J.K. Dobbins is on the doubtful side of questionable, and the top running back behind him is journeyman Mike Davis.

Considering Jackson has 12 career 100-yard rushing games on his NFL resume, the Ravens rushing game should be just fine.

From a receiver standpoint, former number one Marquise Brown was traded to Arizona in the offseason, paving the way for another big Mark Andrews season. Andrews led all tight ends in receiving yards in 2021 with 1,361, and should be line for a big day against an average Jets defense.

On the other side of the ball, the Ravens ranked first against the run in 2021, but last against the pass. They’ve tried to solve that problem by firing their defensive co-ordinator, drafting safety Kyle Hamilton in the first round, and trading for safety Marcus Williams from New Orleans.

Add in the return of healthy corners Marlon Humphrey and Marcus Peters and you’re looking at Pro Football Focus’ top graded secondary heading into the season.

New York Jets Betting Analysis

Back to Flacco now, who’ll be looking for his first victory in six spot starts since leaving Baltimore in 2018. The 37-year-old could be in for a long afternoon, as his offensive line is banged up and he’s going to be forced to rely on several first and second-year players.

New York is currently on their third left tackle after injuries to Mehkhi Becton and Duane Brown in the offseason. The o-line was supposed to be a strength this season, but that’s no longer looking like the case.

From a skill position standpoint, the Jets have a lot of promise, but many of their players are raw. Running back Michael Carter and wideout Elijah Moore are unproven sophomores, while RB Breece Hall and receiver Garrett Wilson failed to live up to the hype in their first training camps.

Defensively, New York grades out in the middle of the pack per PFF on the d-line and in the secondary. The biggest name to watch on that side of the ball will be 2022 fourth-overall pick Sauce Gardner, who should see a lot of the Ravens Rashod Bateman.

Ravens vs Jets Pick

These two teams have faced off just three times in the last decade, most recently in a 2019 Baltimore victory. The Ravens have held New York to an average of only 12.8 points over their last seven meetings, while Flacco led the Jets to just 17 points in his lone 2021 start.

Dating back to 2020, Flacco’s five starts with New York have produced an average of only 16.4 points. Given his shaky offensive line, his unproved skill position corps, and the improved Ravens defense, under 18.5 points for the Jets is a strong wager.
