The Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams meet in the first NFL SNF game of the 2021 season Sunday night. Kickoff from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California is scheduled for 8:20 pm ET. Perfect football weather is expected this one.

Both teams will be led by new signal callers as the Bears opted for Andy Dalton in the offseason. Chicago also drafted Justin Fields in the first round of the NFL draft last April but he will wait. The Bears will see a familiar face on the other sideline in Matthew Stafford as the long-time Detroit Lions quarterback is now a Los Angeles Ram.

The Rams are big 7.5-point favorites in this matchup and could go even higher by the time kickoff rolls around. So far 84% of the early wagers have come in on Los Angeles as nobody seems to have faith in the Bears at the moment. As always, there are more than enough player props to consider for this game.

Cole Kmet Time

Cole Kmet was taken in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft to be utilized in the Bears’ offense. He’s definitely not just a blocker as he proved at Notre Dame even though he can move people around. He wasted no time showing off his hands to the Los Angeles Rams when these two teams met last season.

Kmet will definitely be more involved in the Bears’ offense in 2021 after only catching 28 balls last season. Jimmy Graham is still around and will no doubt contribute which takes away from Kmet a little early on in the season. Still, Kmet should still be a factor in this game.

Cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey and Darious Williams are no joke in the Rams secondary so Chicago will likely try to avoid them whenever possible. Last season, opposing tight ends posted a 70-731-7 line against Los Angeles and they played a few teams like Arizona who barely ever use their tight ends.

In this game we have two different paths to victory. I would expect the Rams to jump out to a lead behind Matthew Stafford and the offense. Once that happens, our guy Kmet gets into “catch-up” mode. Even if that doesn’t happen, his number is so low that he could just get home straight up. Either way, I think he goes over his receiving yards number.

The Pick: Cole Kmet Over 23.5 Receiving Yards – Wager 1.2 units to win 1 unit

Who Scores?

The touchdown prop is always a fun one and it’s a staple in my weekly betting cards. For this game I am backing another tight end, just on the other team. Tyler Higbee is our guy and he’s definitely no stranger to the end zone. After all, we’ve seen him get in multiple times in one game just last season.

The Bears have a good group of cornerbacks namely Jaylon Johnson and Kindle Vildor. They, like the Rams, had issues covering the tight end position last season. In fact, only two teams in the NFL gave up more touchdowns to the position. If and when the Rams get into the red zone, Higbee is going to be an option.

Since he is +200 and not so much of a long shot, we can up the ante a little and drop a .5 unit wager on Higbee to score a touchdown. I think he scores in this game.

Pick: Tyler Higbee – Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+200) – Wager .5 unit to win 1 unit
