We will officially be on Week 6 of the 2021 NFL Season when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pay a visit to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football. Kickoff from Lincoln Financial Field is scheduled for 8:20 pm ET on FOX. Glorious weather is expected with temperatures in the low-70s and no precipitation in site.

The Buccaneers started slowly last Sunday, spotting the Miami Dolphins a 10-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. From then on, it was all Tampa Bay as they won the final three quarters 38-7 and the game 45-17. Meanwhile, it took a Jalen Hurts touchdown with 2:38 seconds left to push the Philadelphia Eagles past the Carolina Panthers 21-18.

This line is at Tampa Bay -6.5 and 75% of the early wagers have been on the Buccaneers. As for the total, it has gone from 53.5 to 52.5 since opening. Just like every other NFL game, there are plenty of player props to consider.

Zach Ertz Will Bounce Back

One guy who has had a rough couple years is Zach Ertz. He went from one of the top names in fantasy football at the tight end position to not even being rostered in many leagues. Still some of the drop-off in production can’t be blamed on him. After all, it takes two to complete a pass.

There is a very good chance that fellow tight end Dallas Goedert won’t suit up Thursday night. He tested positive for Covid and needs two negative tests before he can be cleared to play. That seems unlikely being that this game will be played on Thursday night. Obviously with Goedert out, Ertz has a better path to his receiving yards prop but even if Goedert plays, Ertz can still get home.

In his last three games, Ertz has seen at least six targets in all of them. In two of the three games, he’s gone over 53 receiving yards. Keep in mind that Dallas Goedert played in each of these games. On top of Goedert possibly missing this one, it’s against a very favorable opponent.

On the season, no team in the NFL has given up more receptions to the tight end position than the Buccaneers. No team has given up less rushing yards to the running back position so it makes sense. Teams are bypassing the run all together and throwing short passes instead. I would expect this trend to continue Thursday night and Ertz to go over his receiving yards number.

  • The Pick: Zach Ertz Over 40.5 Receiving Yards (-115) – Wager 1.15 units to win 1 unit
  • SBR 2021 NFL Player Props Record: 6-9, -3.6 Units

Ertz Can Score Too

The rules clearly state that we need to have a touchdown scorer prop for primetime NFL games and we are rule followers around here. The touchdown prop is fun, exciting and normally plus odds. What’s not to like?

Taking Zach Ertz’s receiving yardage prop over also reminded me that he can score a little too. He’s been doing it for years!

On the year, Ertz has only caught one touchdown but he is still a redbone threat. Especially for a team that won’t be able to run the ball in that area of the field. The Buccaneers have given up three receiving touchdowns in only five games to opposing tight ends this season. Perhaps Ertz can make it four Thursday night.

  • Pick: Zach Ertz Anytime TD Scorer (+225) – Wager 0.10 units to win 0.225 units
  • 2021 Touchdown Scorer prop record: 5-10, -0.345 units
