  • The cream of the crop in the AFC South and NFC South face off in the first game of a MNF doubleheader tonight
  • The public is leaning to the road ‘dog to cover and win straight-up
  • Read below for the Buccaneers vs Texans public-betting splits and final injury reports on Sep. 15

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-0) and Houston Texans (0-1) square off in the first leg of a Week 2 Monday Night Football doubleheader at 7:00 pm ET on Sep. 15th. The Bucs will look to continue their momentum from a comeback victory over Atlanta in Week 1, while the Texans try to flush the ugliness of a 14-9 loss at the Rams.

The Texans are slight favorites in the MNF odds, and the public is expecting a tight, defense-centric matchup.

My colleague Chris Amberley is backing the Texans to cover -2.5, getting back on track after a Week 1 loss, in his Buccaneers vs Texans Picks & Predictions.

The moneyline is not as evenly split. The Bucs have gotten 60% of the moneyline handle despite only getting 35% of bets. The Texans are getting 40% of the moneyline handle on 65% of moneyline bets.

The public is heavily backing the under, with 93% of bets and 90% of the handle on the under. The over has accounted for only 7% of total bets and 10% of the total handle. The total has dropped by as many as three points since the books opened, moving from 45.5 in some places to a consensus 42.5 total.

The Buccaneers will once again miss Chris Godwin and Tristan Wirfs. Godwin has not played since Week 7 of the 2024 season. Wirfs sustained an injury in training camp. Both are expected to return before Week 5 – neither was placed on injured reserve – but they are key pieces who will be difficult to replace until they return. Rookie Emeka Egbuka has served as the Godwin replacement. Graham Barton, Tampa’s usual center, has taken Wirfs’ spot at left tackle.

The Bucs’ other tackle is also nursing an injury. Luke Goedeke has been an ascending right tackle over the last three seasons, but he is dealing with a foot injury. If he cannot go, six-year veteran Charlie Heck would likely get the start at right tackle unless the Bucs opt to shuffle their line again.

Tampa’s secondary is also banged up, with both Christian Izien and Benjamin Morrison on the injury report. Neither suited up in Week 1, but they would be key pieces in defending the various Texans’ weapons. Izien played 31 of 34 games in the last two seasons while Morrison is waiting to make his NFL debut.

On the Texans’ side, both Christian Kirk and Braxton Berrios will miss their second consecutive games. Kirk was slated to be Houston’s No.2 receiver while Berrios would serve as the primary punt returner. Their spots in the lineup should be replaced by a pair of Iowa State rookies. Second-round pick Jayden Higgins received three targets last week while third-round pick Jaylin Noel returned a pair of punts.

Jake Andrews played 45 of 63 snaps for the Texans last week. Backup Jarrett Patterson handled the other 18 as the Texans lost to the Rams. Patterson has been a mediocre center in his three-year NFL career, posting PFF grades of 60.4 and 64.1 in the last two seasons. Last week, he had a 59.1 grade in relief of Andrews.
