  • Division rivals will kick off Week 15 when the Kansas City Chiefs visit the Los Angeles Chargers at 8:20 pm ET on Thursday, December 16, 2021
  • The Chargers could pull even with the Chiefs for the top spot in the AFC West so this one is as important as they come

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs (9-4) will travel to Los Angeles, CA to get it on with the Los Angeles Chargers (8-5) Thursday night. We’ll see every play on FOX as it happens with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 pm ET. They’re playing this one inside SoFi Stadium so the weather won’t slow down the potential fireworks these offenses are known for.

The Chiefs are coming into this one as hot as any team in the NFL as winners of their last six games. They pulverized the Las Vegas Raiders 48-9 last week in a game that was never close even when it was 0-0. On the other side, the Chargers have won three of their last four after downing the New York Giants 37-21 last weekend.

The Chiefs are rolling into this one as 3-point favorites but as always the line could shift before kickoff with COVID-19 lurking. The total is resting at 52 which seems a little low for these two offenses so we’ll have to wait to see where it closes. Just like every other NFL game, there are plenty of player props to consider.

  • Due to both teams dealing with COVID-19, not all of their players have props at the time of publishing.

Herbert Has Wheels

This is a gigantic game and for that reason, we need to go with the guys that mean the most. Not that everyone isn’t important, I’m just saying Justin Herbert will have his fingerprints all over this game. Let’s just go with him Thursday night in our Chiefs vs Chargers predictions.

Most people will be looking at his passing yards, but I think we should bet on the wheels.

Herbert is undercover fast and people don’t realize it. When you have a bazooka for a right arm, sometimes people don’t realize you can reach 20+ mph when you run. We’ve seen it over and over again yet the books still give him a low rushing yard total. It’s crazy.

Over his last five games, Herbert has rushed for at least 19 yards in four of them. He’s even gone as high as 90 in a game against Pittsburgh yet the books still continue to doubt the wheels. In fact, the only time he didn’t go for at least 19 rushing yards in the last month was against the Cincinnati Bengals when the Chargers played with a lead. That may not happen this week.

The Chiefs are one of the hottest teams in the NFL and need this game so I would expect it to be tight. They’ve done well defensively recently, but one area they’ve struggled with is limiting opposing quarterbacks’ rushing production. On the season, only four teams have given up more rushing yards to opposing signal-callers than Kansas City. This is the sneakiest move on the board.

  • The Pick: Justin Herbert Over 15.5 Rushing Yards (-115) – Wager 1.15 units to win 1 unit
  • SBD 2021 NFL Player Props Record: 25-28, -2.12 Units

Darrel Williams Will Score Thursday Night

A prominent historical figure once said, “give me touchdown scorer props or give me death!” I’m with that guy. There is no better way to watch an NFL game than with money on a guy to score a touchdown. It’s just the way it is and there is nothing we can do to stop it. Lean into it.

Lucky for us, our guy Darrel Williams of the Chiefs will be in uniform for this game.

Darrel Williams has slowly carved out a more significant role over the course of this season. After only playing 34% of the snaps the first time these two teams met, Williams has now worked himself into a 50/50 split with Clyde Edwards-Helaire. He leads the Chiefs’ running backs in touchdowns and carries inside the opponents’ five-yard-line.

That’s important because the Chiefs should be able to run all over the Chargers’ defense, especially near the goal-line. On the season, only one team (Jets) in the NFL has given up more rushing touchdowns to opposing running backs than the Chargers. If and when the Chiefs get inside the five-yard-line, Williams is a safe bet to get a crack at punching it in.

  • Pick: Darrel Williams Anytime TD Scorer (+190) – Wager 1 unit to win 1.9 units
  • SBD 2021 Touchdown Scorer prop record: 19-33, -3.96 units
