The Detroit Lions (5-3) look to exact revenge on the Washington Commanders (3-6) after a shocking playoff loss last season. Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, plays host to a 4:25 pm ET kickoff on a FOX broadcast.
I have made my Lions vs Commanders pick below. Keep reading for three key players to watch for (with associated props) as well as the final Lions/Commanders betting lines for this NFC Divisional Round rematch.
DET Lions vs WSH Commanders Picks & Predictions
- Over 48.5 (-118, FanDuel)
Last time these teams squared off, a whopping 76 points found their way on the scoreboard. Despite turning the ball over five times, Detroit amassed 521 yards, 31 points, and 30 first downs. Washington, while banged up now, scored 45 points with 481 yards and 27 first downs.
Both teams have a .500 record on the over this season. Washington’s 4-4-1 mark is all the more impressive considering the various injuries Jayden Daniels has sustained. The units to watch are Detroit’s offense (No.2 in scoring) and Washington’s defense (No.23 in scoring defense).
In this postseason rematch, I am expecting a boatload of points. Therefore, I am backing Over 48.5 with Detroit doing a lot of the heavy lifting.
- David Montgomery Anytime TD (+110, FanDuel)
Montgomery has five touchdowns this season, scoring a touchdown in four different weeks. In games in which Montgomery scores, the Lions are 3-1. He has scored in three of their five victories.
Washington has allowed seven rushing touchdowns on the season, among the middle of the pack in the NFL. Of the group, five rushing touchdowns belong to running backs with tight end AJ Barner and quarterback Caleb Williams also victimizing Washington.
The “Knuckles” to Jahmyr Gibbs’ “Sonic,” Montgomery has plus-odds to score a touchdown this week while Gibbs is -145 even with line shopping. Given these odds, Montgomery is the best bet to make you some money this Sunday.
- Marcus Mariota Over 26.5 Rushing Yards (-118, BetRivers)
Mariota has cleared this mark in two of his three starts this season. He also cleared it in a relief role versus the Cowboys in Week 7. In those four games, Mariota has averaged 30.5 rushing yards.
Four quarterbacks have cleared this mark against the Lions this season. Lamar Jackson had the high water mark of 35 yards, but Patrick Mahomes, Jake Browning, and Caleb Williams also eclipsed 26.5 yards in their appearances.
Given the expected game script in this game, Mariota will likely have a bevy of scramble opportunities. He should thrive, particularly, against Detroit as they run man coverage at one of the highest rates in the NFL. All it might take is one or two solid scrambles along with a read option or two for Mariota to cash this prop.
- Amon-Ra St. Brown Most Receiving Yards (+120, FanDuel)
St. Brown has been the game’s outright leader in receiving yards just twice this season. He also has a tie to his name—last week against the Vikings with Sam LaPorta. However, with Terry McLaurin out, the Commanders do not have a threat to challenge St. Brown if he plays to his normal level.
St. Brown has averaged 79.4 yards per game this season. He has 70 yards in six of eight games, including all five of Detroit’s wins. He has a pair of 100-yard games and a 97-yard outing last week.
Washington has a bottom-five pass defense this season. They are 29th in passing yards allowed per game and last in the NFL in net yards per pass. They have allowed four receivers, one tight end, and one running back to eclipse 100 yards against them this season. Last week, Jaxon Smith-Njigba turned nine targets into eight catches for 129 yards versus Washington.
Lions vs Commanders Betting Lines
The Lions are sizable road favorites with the total set between 48.5 and 49.5 in the current NFL odds. Over bettors can take over 48.5 at FanDuel for -118 odds. Under bettors can get under 49.5 on ESPNBet for -105 odds.
Detroit bettors can get the Lions on the spread at -7.5 on BetRivers for -109 odds or -450 on the moneyline at bet365. For Washington bettors, take the Commanders at +8.5 at DraftKings (-110 odds) or +380 odds at Fanatics on the moneyline.
DET vs WSH: Last Five Matchups
*Playoff game
The Commanders have dominated this matchup that dates back to 1932 (as the Portsmouth Spartans vs Boston Braves). Washington is an impressive 32-16 lifetime, including a perfect 4-0 mark in playoff games. Washington once won 18 matchups in a row over 30 years. Detroit last won in Landover in 2013, its lone win at Washington ever (good for a 1-22 record since Washington moved from Boston).
In their most recent matchup, the Commanders shocked the NFL world, winning outright as 9.5-point underdogs to a 15-2 Detroit squad. On the Washington side, Jayden Daniels tossed a pair of touchdowns and Brian Robinson ran two in. For Detroit, Jahmyr Gibbs had 175 total yards and two touchdowns. Jameson Williams had an eventful day with an interception, 61-yard rushing touchdown, and 19-yard catch.
Detroit had a whopping five turnovers. In addition to the inexplicable Williams interception, Jared Goff tossed three picks and lost a fumble.
