No Fireworks in Jacksonville Jaguars vs Atlanta Falcons Joint Practice
Many joint practices this NFL off-season have made headlines for their brawls, rather than the actual play on the football field. Surprisingly, the Jaguars and Falcons managed to go through a full two days of practice without any fisticuffs.
The Jaguars’ greatest on-field achievement came during late-practice red-zone drills. In the preseason, the Jaguars have had trouble finishing drives, and the first team offense has only produced one score. Jacksonville’s offense finally broke through during Wednesday’s practice, with quarterbacking prodigy Trevor Lawrence hitting the newly rich Christian Kirk with two touchdown passes.

Remarkably, the Falcons open as a favorite for the third straight week.
Jacksonville fell at Cleveland last week, stumbling to a 24-13 loss. While Atlanta racked up 13 penalties for 121 total yards on Monday night in New York, losing to the Jets 24-16.
Jacksonville Trying to Build Momentum
At least the Jags are no longer led by Urban Meyer. Unfortunately for fans in Duval, it’ll take a while to wash the stench of Urban Meyer off this football team. For a guy who supposedly didn’t know how to lose, it’s odd he started his NFL coaching career in Jacksonville. As they’ve struggled in the regular season, this team has toiled in preseason mediocrity.
Jacksonville enters this NFL Preseason Week 3 contest having covered the spread just twice in their last 20 preseason outings.

The bright spot for the Jaguars is sophomore quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The long-haired Clemson alumni represents the future in Jacksonville. Regrettably, new Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson has announced he does not plan on playing starters this weekend. Evidently, the Jacksonville coaching staff saw enough in practice between these squads. Pederson and company would rather evaluate the depth on their roster than risk injury for their starters.
Falcons Look to End Preseason With a Win
The 1-1 Falcons have also been decidedly mediocre this preseason. However, this team employs an intriguing youngster at quarterback too.
Veteran starter Marcus Mariota has looked sharp this offseason. Still just 28 years old, the former Oregon star has looked like he belongs as the starting quarterback in Arthur Smith’s offense.

After dropping a dime to star tight end Kyle Pitts on Monday night, Mariota was surgical during Wednesday’s practice. At one point hitting seven passes in a row. Meanwhile, rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder will look to make his mark. The third-round pick out of Cincinnati will enter the season as the QB2 after Mariota was named the starter just one day into training camp. He will seek to impress during Saturday’s game.
In other Falcons news, former Pro Bowler Deion Jones was activated off the physically unable to perform list and could play in this preseason finale. The LSU alum has been running with the second and third-string defenses so far in practice.
Jacksonville Jaguars vs Atlanta Falcons Prediction
Ultimately, it’s tough to trust either side in this one. The Jaguars have already announced their starters will not play. While it’s doubtful Atlanta’s first stringers see more than a few snaps. Our formula has the Falcons predicted to win 19.8-18.1.
The Falcons have given up an average of 23.5 points in each of the past two games, while the Jaguars have surrendered at least 23 points in each of the past two games. Take the over here and be sure to check out this BetMGM promo code for a unique offer to use on the NFL.
