The Battle for New York returns to the preseason Saturday night when the Jets visit the Giants at MetLife Stadium. Both teams are coming off impressive offensive showings, with the Giants beating Buffalo 34-25 and the Jets demolishing Green Bay 30-10.

The Giants opened as 1.5-point underdogs, but sharp money has driven them to 3.5-point favorites in the NFL odds. Neither Aaron Glenn nor Brian Daboll has revealed their quarterback plans, making this a guessing game. But after a week of intense joint practices, we have a good idea what to expect.

Keep reading for Jets vs Giants odds, projected starters and expert predictions.

Jets vs Giants Predictions

  • Jets +3.5 (-108)

Don’t get fooled by the Giants’ 34-25 win over Buffalo. Sure, they put up points, but they also got torched for 389 yards and 7.1 yards per play. Meanwhile, the Jets absolutely suffocated Green Bay, holding them to just 188 total yards and 4 yards per play. That’s no fluke, but rather elite defense.

The line movement from Jets +1.5 to Giants -3.5 feels like an overreaction. That’s a massive 5-point swing for teams that share a stadium but don’t actually have home-field advantage. That creates value on the Jets getting more than a field goal.

Justin Fields needs reps in the Jets’ new system under offensive coordinator Tanner Ergstrand. Reports from joint practices suggest the Jets offense looked good against the Giants’ first-stringers, particularly in the run game. Fields went 3-for-4 with a rushing touchdown in his lone drive last week.

Behind Fields, Adrian Martinez provides quality depth. He went 11-for-16 for 152 yards and a touchdown against the Packers. The former Nebraska quarterback couldn’t stick initially in the NFL but excelled in Birmingham. His mobility creates problems for backup defenses in the preseason.

Brian Daboll often rests starters after joint practices. He’s just 2-8 against the spread in his last 10 preseason games. Aaron Glenn seems more committed to winning these exhibitions, and the Jets’ defense gives them the edge if this becomes a battle of backups.

After an intense week of joint practices, expect both teams to shift down in the second half. That should keep this close. The Jets have the better defense and enough offensive firepower to stay within a field goal.

Starting QBs: Jets vs Giants

Neither coach has revealed their quarterback plans, but we can make educated guesses based on patterns and needs. The Jets will likely start Justin Fields for at least one series before turning to Adrian Martinez and rookie Brady Cook.

Fields needs every snap he can get in the new offense. He showed promise last week with his legs, carrying twice for 14 yards and a touchdown on his only drive. The Jets invested significant draft capital to acquire him, and preseason is his chance to build chemistry.

Notable Jets and Giants Quarterbacks

New York GiantsRussell Wilson, Jameis Winston, Tommy DeVito, Jaxson Dart

The Giants’ quarterback room is more crowded. Russell Wilson played just one series last week, going 6-for-7 for 28 yards. Jameis Winston added 62 yards and a touchdown. But the real story is rookie Jaxson Dart, the first-round pick from Mississippi.

Dart handled the bulk of the work against Buffalo, attempting 19 of the team’s 51 passes. He went 12-for-19 for 154 yards and a touchdown. Expect him to see extensive action again as the Giants evaluate their future franchise quarterback.

The wild card is Tommy DeVito, the local kid who became a folk hero last season. He provides an interesting wrinkle with his mobility and could see time if the Giants want to keep things vanilla with their rookie.

Both teams have competent backup options, but the Jets’ defense should make life difficult for whoever takes snaps for the Giants. Their secondary remains one of the best in football, even with backups, and that could frustrate the inexperienced Dart.
