Odds to Be Last Team Undefeated in 2019 NFL Season: Patriots Favored at 8-1

- The New England Patriots were just 1-2 after three games last season.
- The Philadelphia Eagles have five road games in their first eight contests.
- The Kansas City Chiefs are a good bet to be the league’s last undefeated team.
The quest for perfection is often one of the key storylines in the NFL season, but few teams are able to pull it off.
Who will be the last team with a zero in the loss column this year? Sportsboks have posted odds, and while the favorite is obvious, there might be value with some of the other teams.

Patriots Often Lose Early
The Patriots are favored on a number of futures, so it’s no surprise that they’re favored in this spot too. The list looks very much like the Super Bowl futures, for the most part, with the Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints near the top.

The main concern with betting the Patriots with this prop is that we know this team tends to disappoint in the month of September. Last season, they started the year 1-2 after losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions in Weeks 2 and 3. In 2017, the Pats were 2-2 after their first four games.
Looking further back, the Pats lost their fourth game in 2016 and were again 2-2 after their first four games in 2014. They also lost their fifth game in 2013, were 1-2 in 2012 and lost at least once in their first three games in 2011 and 2010. The lone outlier is 2015 when they won their first 10 games before losing.
Even so, history shows us this may not be the best bet.
Chiefs Have A Breeze Of A Schedule
Kansas City are also expected to be one of the top teams in the league, and why I like them in this prop over the Patriots is because of their schedule. The Chiefs start off with back-to-back road games at Jacksonville and Oakland, which will be tricky, but this team should win both.
After that, they come home to play Baltimore, visit Detroit, then host Indianapolis and Houston. They’ll be favored in each contest. After that, they visit Denver, then host Green Bay and Minnesota, and then visit Tennessee. Again, they should be favored in all of those contests.

Given the weapons the Chiefs have on offense, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re 12-0 when they visit the Patriots in Week 14.
Rams Have A Slew Of Tough Early Tests
While the Chiefs schedule looks favorable, the Rams schedule is anything but. They’ll start on the road at Carolina, who is an improved team, then they’ll come home to face the New Orleans Saints, whom they beat in the NFC Championship Game. After that, they visit the upstart Cleveland Browns.
They’ll have a brief respite against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4 but they’ll have road trips to Seattle and Atlanta in the following weeks. The Rams should have a winning record after all of this, but that is a slew of good teams in there with four of the game on the road. There will be a loss in there.
2019 Early Schedule
Week # | Patriots Opponents | Chiefs Opponents | Rams Opponents | Eagles Opponents | Cowboys Opponents |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | vs Steelers | at Jaguars | at Panthers | vs Redskins | vs Giants |
2 | at Dolphins | at Raiders | vs Saints | at Falcons | at Redskins |
3 | vs Jets | vs Ravens | at Browns | vs Lions | vs Dolphins |
4 | at Bills | at Lions | vs Buccaneers | at Packers | at Saints |
5 | at Redskins | vs Colts | at Seahawks | vs Jets | vs Packers |
Eagles Will Get Tripped Up
In lieu of breaking down the Eagles schedule game-by-game, I’ll simply tell you this: they play five road games in the first eight weeks of the season. That includes a three-game road trip that takes them to Minnesota, Dallas and Buffalo in consecutive weeks. With visits to Green Bay and Atlanta before, that, there’s at least one loss in there for the Eagles.

Scratch The Cowboys Off The List
One of the biggest oddities on this list is that the Cowboys are tied for the third-shortest odds. Cross-referencing that with the Super Bowl odds, the Cowboys are just 12th in line in terms of those futures. So what’s the story here?
What it comes down to is a manageable schedule. They’ll host the New York Giants to start, then visit the Washington Redskins and come home to face the Miami Dolphins. That should be a 3-0 beginning. After that, they visit the New Orleans Saints and host the Green Bay Packers, then visit the Jets and host the Eagles.

That’s not too arduous of a test right off the bat, but the Cowboys don’t have Ezekiel Elliott back in the lineup and signed yet. We’re approaching the end of preseason and while the sides are optimistic, do you really want to bet on the Cowboys without their star running back? On top of that, that schedule has at least a loss in there.
What’s The Best Bet?
After looking at the top teams, I like the Chiefs. This is a team that lost just once in their first ten games last season, a 43-40 thriller at New England. Their second loss was 54-51 against the Los Angeles Rams. They don’t really have an opponent like that on the docket until the Patriots in Week 14. I like the Chiefs with this prop.
