  • Matt Nagy is the favorite to be the next head coach of the Tennessee Titans
  • Brian Callahan was ousted mid-season and Mike McCoy was interim HC for a 3-14 team
  • See the next Titans Head Coach odds below, plus my favorite pick to get the job

The Tennessee Titans just completed their fourth straight losing campaign, going a woeful 3-14 for the second straight year. With 2025 first-overall pick QB Cam Ward hoping to take a second-year leap, the Titans desperately need to get their next head-coach hire right.

Online sportsbooks are listing former Chicago Bears head honcho Matt Nagy as the favorite, followed by the likes of Robert Saleh and Mike McCarthy. Below you’ll find the odds to be next Titans head coach, plus my favorite pick to get the job.

Matt Nagy+300
Robert Saleh+650
Mike McCarthy+650
Arthur Smith+700

Mike Kafka+1000
Jeff Hafley+1000
Brian Flores+1200
Joe Brady+1200
Mike Minter+1200

Matt Nagy, who went 34-31 in four seasons as Chicago Bears HC from 2018-21 is +300 favorite. He’s been the Chiefs OC the last three years, a position he held in 2017 that propelled him to the Bears job. He’s followed by the duo of Robert Saleh (Jets bench boss from 2021-24 and current 49ers DC), and Mike McCarthy, who has been a Head Coach for 18 years with the Packers and Cowboys, winning a Super Bowl with GB in 2010.

Matt Nagy Top Candidate for Titans

It would be tempting to assume the Kansas City Chiefs offenses have been dynamite for a number of years, simply because they have Patrick Mahomes. However, under OC Matt Nagy the last three seasons, they simply haven’t been that. After KC was tops in PPG in 2022 (under Eric Bieniemy), they’ve sunk to 15th, 15th and 21st the three years under Nagy’s stewardship.

After a phenomenal first campaign as HC of the Bears in 2018, where he went 12-4, Nagy was a combined 22-27 the last three seasons. He certainly has the respect of a generational offensive mind in Andy Reid to be his offensive coordinator, but I’m not sold on him landing the Titans gig, given the numbers I outlined and the price tag.

Tennessee Titans Scoring Offense Ranks – Last 4 Years

YearRank
202530th
202427th
202327th
202228th

Despite posting a 20-36 record with the Jets, Robert Saleh still has considerable respect around the league, and propped up a 49ers D this season that was without All Pro players like Nick Bosa and Fred Warner for most the year. They weren’t incredible, which was to be expected, but still were a respectable 13th in PPG allowed, putting them in contention in the Super Bowl odds.

It’s fashionable to make Mike McCarthy a punching bag, given that Aaron Rodgers only won one SB with him at the helm, but he steered the Cowboys to three straight 12-5 seasons from 2021-23, so it’s not as if he presides over disastrous squads. His overall record in 18 seasons is 174-112-2, and big D was first in scoring in 2021 and 2023, and fourth in 2022. He’s co-second fave to land the Titans job, but it’d be a somewhat uninspiring hire.

Tennessee Titans Next Head Coach Prediction

Two names that stick out most to me are Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula (+750) and Bills OC Joe Brady (+1200). Oftentimes a team will switch from hiring an offensive guy to a defensive coach, and vice versa. They had Brian Callahan, who was an offensive coach, but that didn’t work, and Shula is the Rams DC, and the NFL loves Sean McVay disciples.

However, I like the value that Tennessee will want to pair up Joe Brady, and hope he can do with Cam Ward that he’s done with Josh Allen, leading Buffalo to the fourth highest scoring team (28.3 PPG). The Titans hold the fourth overall selection in the draft, a premium pick for a new HC to work with.

If the Titans want to make a splash and allow their franchise quarterback to take a huge second year leap, they should prefer an offensive mind, and I like the guy who’s been working with an elite signal caller in Josh Allen for Tennessee.
