  • Cleveland Browns’ star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has reportedly been asking other players and teams to “come and get him” in the offseason
  • Beckham Jr. hasn’t had a 100-yard receiving game in seven games, the longest drought of his career
  • OBJ is on pace for just 1,038 receiving yards this season

Odell Beckham Jr. hasn’t had the season neither he or the Cleveland Browns expected of him. Not only are his numbers way down, but his impact has also been so minimal that the Browns might be second-guessing their decision to trade for him. As for OBJ, he’s apparently unhappy and has been asking teams to “come get him”. Will he be with the Browns in 2020?

Beckham Jr. Has Been Non-Factor for Browns

When the Browns acquired Beckham Jr., the assumption was that they were adding one of the game’s most explosive weapons to the team. He had been viewed as the best overall receiver in the NFL. However, through 13 games with his new team, he’s been nothing more than ordinary.

In his last 11 games, Beckham Jr. has just one game where he’s crossed the 100-yard mark, which was a 101-yard effort against the Seattle Seahawks. He has just two such games on the season with a total of two touchdowns. He had 1,052 yards with six touchdowns in 12 games last season; this year, he’s on pace for just 1,038 yards.

Beyond that, the greater concern is a report from NFL insider Jay Glazer, who alleges that Beckham Jr. has been talking to different players and teams around the league, asking them to “come and get him” in the offseason. It doesn’t sound like OBJ is happy in Cleveland and if that’s the case, it could be the catalyst for a change.

Browns Hold All the Cards

One of the reasons why Beckham Jr. isn’t likely to go anywhere is because the Browns have all of the leverage. OBJ is under contract and the Browns aren’t under any pressure to make any moves. Now if OBJ was to act out, demand a trade publicly and threaten not to show up, that could force their hand.

However, unless that happens, don’t expect the Browns to even look at trading him. His value is at an all-time low and they gave up 2017 first-round pick Jabrill Peppers along with another first- and third-round pick for him. They’d be silly to cut ties at this point.

What’s more likely to happen is the Browns will fire head coach Freddie Kitchens in the offseason and that will wipe the slate clean. They’ll find a new coach who can get everyone on the same page, get this offense going and give this unit another chance to gel. If the Browns fire Kitchens, that should appease OBJ long enough to see how the new setup works.

That being the case, I’d bet on -300 that he’s still in a Cleveland Browns uniform next season.
