The NFC South title is on the line Saturday, sort of. The Panthers (8-8) can clinch the division with a win, but even if they lose to the Buccaneers (7-9), will still be crowned division champs if the Falcons beat the Saints.

Tampa Bay has dropped seven of their last eight games to put themselves in this position, and starting QB Baker Mayfield clearly isn’t 100 percent. As a result, I expect a heavy dose of the run game and the short passing attack to keep the Bucs playoff hopes alive, bringing players like Bucky Irving and Chris Godwin into consideration for player prop wagers.

Panthers vs Buccaneers Player Prop Bet #1: Bucky Irving Rushing Yards

• Bucky Irving Over 57.5 Rushing Yards (-114) at FanDuel

Since returning from injury five games ago, Irving has had a stranglehold on the Bucs carries. He’s racked up at least 15 rush attempts in all but one of those outings, and has out carried backup Rachaad White 76 to 21. Irving has cleared 57.5 rushing yards in three of those games, including two weeks ago versus the Panthers. He put up 71 yards on 19 attempts in that matchup, and the Carolina run defense has been atrocious over the last six weeks.

Panthers Run Defense – Since Week 13

That unit ranks 30th in EPA/rush and 27th in rush success rate during that stretch. Tampa rushed for 169 yards in their Week 16 meeting, and then Seattle ran for 163 yards against the Panthers last week.

Panthers vs Buccaneers Player Prop Bet #2: Chris Godwin Longest Reception

If the Bucs had been healthy all season, there’s a chance they’d be a player in the Super Bowl odds. Injuries derailed their season though, and it looks like Mayfield is hampered by various ailments. That’s hurt his ability to throw down field, but he can still get the ball out short and over the middle. That’s where Godwin likes to operate, and he sets up favorably in this game.

Carolina is a middling secondary that doesn’t tackle very well. Godwin is a YAC monster, and can turn short passes and screens into big gains. Over 66% of his yards this year have come after the catch, and I’m betting he racks up at least one 16+ yard reception, just like he’s done in three of his last five outings.

How about a plus-money wager to cap things off. Legette is +146 to catch fewer than 2 passes, something that’s happened three times in his last four games.

Earning targets is a skill, and one that Legette does not excel at. He’s had three or fewer targets in four straight outings, and has taken a significant back seat to Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker. That shouldn’t change this week, as those two out targeted Legette 15 to 3 in the last matchup with Tampa Bay.
