The Week 9 Monday Night Football matchup between the New England Patriots and New York Jets is not one you’re going to be telling your grandkids about one day.

The Pats enter play on Monday riding a four-game losing streak, their longest since 2002, while the Jets are 0-8 to start the 2020 season.

Oddsmakers don’t expect a competitive game, as New England is currently a 10-point favorite, but that kind of projected game script could open up plenty of opportunities in the player props market. The Pats want to run the ball at all cost, and if they’re going to be playing from ahead, Damien Harris becomes a very interesting target.

All Odds taken Nov. 8th at DraftKings.

Prop #1: Damien Harris Over 48.5 Rushing Yards

The second year running back is fresh off the best game of his young career, rushing for 102 yards and on a score on 16 attempts in Week 9 at Buffalo.

Harris has now rushed for at least 100 yards in two of his past four games, and is averaging a healthy 5.7 yards per carry in 2020. He has the luxury of running behind Pro Football Focus’ number one ranked run blocking unit, and New York recently traded away two of its premiere run stoppers Steve McClendon and Avery Williamson.

The last time we saw the Jets in primetime, Melvin Gordon ran all over them, and spots don’t get much better than this for Harris. The Patriots run the ball at the league’s second highest clip (50.11%), and we can expect a much bigger run-pass discrepancy if they build a healthy lead like online sportsbooks project.

Pick: Damien Harris over 48.5 rushing yards (-112), 1 unit

Prop #2: Jamison Crowder Over 4.5 Receptions

This next prop hinges on Jamison Crowder being active, so make sure to check his status leading up to game time before placing a wager. New York’s slot man missed Week 9 due to a groin injury, and is questionable for this contest, although most beat writers expect him to play.

Crowder has caught at least seven passes in each of his games this season, and has seen 23 targets in two full outings with Joe Flacco under center. He’s eclipsed 100 receiving yards in all but one of his contests, and no receiver position receives more volume in Adam Gase’s offense than the slot man.

The matchup is tough, but Crowder won’t have to worry about seeing reigning defensive player of the year Stephon Gilmore, who’s out with a knee injury.

Pick: Jamison Crowder Over 4.5 receptions (-106), 1 unit

Prop #3: Cam Strikes First

As much as I like Harris’ outlook from a rushing yards standpoint, we all know when New England gets in close, Cam Newton is the goal line back.

The 31-year-old already has six rushing touchdowns this season, which is four more than he has through the air. He’s carried the ball a team-high seven times inside the 5-yard line, converting five of those attempts into scores.

No other quarterback in NFL history has more rushing touchdowns than Newton (64), and given his struggles a passer this season, it makes sense for him to tuck the ball and run when New England gets into scoring position.

Pick: Cam Newton to score first (+700), 0.25 units, to score anytime (+120), 1 unit
