NFL SGP Leg #1 – Rhamondre Stevenson Can Get the Job Done

Everybody in New England hates Rhamondre. I don’t get it. People are talking about his fumbling issues, but if we’re being 100, he’s only lost two fumbles this season. That’s really not that bad, even though one was on the goalline and probably cost the Patriots a win.

The thing is, if Mike Vrabel isn’t sitting the guy, then I don’t think we need to worry about him.

Here’s how I see it: there is a reason Rhamondre isn’t being “disciplined” for his fumbles. It’s because he’s good. The man is averaging four yards per carry this season and is breaking tackles like he’s playing with middle schoolers. On top of that, we only need 25 yards out of this guy. That’s basically nothing. But that’s not the best part.

The Patriots are using a “duo” blocking scheme quite a bit. It’s where they use two blockers to move defensive linemen to the second level. As fate would have it, the Buffalo Bills don’t do well against this little scheme. In fact, they’re allowing 6.6 yards per attempt. My guess is Rhamondre breaks one for double-digit yards and gets us over the 25-yard mark with ease. Feels easy.

NFL SGP Leg #2 – There Is Room for Another Back in New England

Rhamondre Stevenson isn’t the only running back in New England. They drafted Treveyon Henderson this past spring, and while it’s been slow going so far, he’s still someone we should keep our eyes on. He’s not just going to go away anytime soon.

I mean, it’s like some of us forgot what he did the first time he ever touched a ball in the NFL.

The haters are going to say that this guy never gets in the game, but they’re forgetting one thing. We only need 20+ yards out of him tonight. On top of that, he’s cutting into Stevenson’s stranglehold on the RB1 spot every week. If the Patriots wouldn’t have blown out the Carolina Panthers last week, he would have been on the field for 40% of the snaps for the second straight week.

My guess is the Patriots try a ball-control approach tonight with their backs. The Bills are third-worst in the NFL in terms of opponent yards per carry, and while that is an outdated stat, it still tells a small story. It means that teams can and will have success on the ground against Buffalo. We just saw two New Orleans Saints backs fly over these numbers last week. I think we see it again tonight. Feels easy.
