First-overall pick Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans (0-1, 0-1 away, 0-1 ATS, 1-0 O/U) travel to the A for a preseason Week 2 meeting with the Atlanta Falcons (0-1, 0-1 home, 0-1 ATS, 0-1 O/U) on Friday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm ET

The line opened with Tennessee as a 4.5-point road favorite but the Titans/Falcons spread has moved significantly toward Atlanta over the course of the week. The table below lists the best spread, moneyline, and game-total options available on Friday morning.

On the moneyline, bet365 and BetMGM have the longest odds on a Falcons victory (+140) while DraftKings once again has the best odds for Tennessee backers (-155). The total is 37.5 at most sportsbooks (with juice on the over) but it’s been raised half-a-point to 38.0 at bet365, which is where under bettors should head.

Friday’s NFL public betting splits show the Falcons getting a ton of love. Atlanta has attracted 66% of ATS handle on 67% of wagers, and a staggering 90% of moneyline wagers on just 42% of bets (indicating sharp money is on ATL). The public is evenly split on the total in terms of handle (50% on both the over and the under), but only 21% of tickets are on the under, which again is a strong indicating that larger, sharper wagers are targeting the under.

Who’s Playing in TEN vs ATL?

The Titans are expected to play first-overall Cam Ward for another couple of series on Friday against Atlanta. Ward played two series in last week’s 29-7 loss to the Buccaneers, going 5-of-8 for 67 yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions, and no sacks.

Head coach Brian Callahan has also stated that Ward will be surrounded by the vast majority of the first-team offense, which includes receivers Calvin Ridley and Tyler Lockett.

The Falcons, on the other hand, are not expected to give either QB1 Michael Penix Jr or QB2 Kirk Cousins any reps. That will leave a combination of Easton Stick and Emory Jones to handle the snaps, just like during Week 1’s 17-10 loss to Detroit. Stick was more than serviceable, going 15-of-18 for 149 yards and a TD. Jones was 4-of-5 for 49 yards.

TEN Titans vs ATL Falcons Picks & Prediction

  • Falcons moneyline (+140) at BetMGM
  • Under 38.0 (-110) at bet365

It’s all well and good that the Titans are planning to play their starters for a series or two, but let’s remember that they had the #1 pick because they were literally the worst team in the NFL last year, finishing sixth-worst in points scored and third-worst in points allowed. Callahan has dozens of issues to address.

The Tennessee defense was absolutely shredded by Tampa’s run game last week (178 yards at 4.3 YPC) despite Kyle Trask – a limited passing threat – taking most of the snaps at QB. Atlanta managed just 22 rushing yards on 11 carries in its 17-10 loss to Detroit, but it’s safe to assume they’ll lean more heavily on the ground game in Week 2. And both Stick and Jones looked solid under center. They might end up being the more productive QBs on Friday night, even though they’re third and fourth on the ATL depth chart.

Underdogs went 8-6-2 straight-up in Week 1, and I didn’t see nearly enough from Tennessee’s starters or backups to warrant the Titans being sizable road favorites in Week 2. (Tennessee was also a field-goal favorite during its blowout loss at Tampa Bay.) Ward was decent in his two series, but his backups – Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle – were both bad, combining to go just 10-of-25 for 86 yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions.
