Selecting which team will win, or if they’ll cover the spread is standard but it’s a wager that doesn’t create a buzz quite like hitting on a player who scores a touchdown. That provides instant gratification and keeps games exciting, even if it’s not a close contest, so I’m hunting for players to find pay dirt on Thursday Night Football.
I’ve put together three players to find the end zone in this gargantuan Dallas Cowboys (6-5-1) vs Detroit Lions (7-5) skirmish that has massive playoff implications in the NFC. The Cowboys have been victorious in three straight, while their counterparts have dropped three of five. I’m choosing three players to record a TD, and adding them all up for a same-game parlay has juicy +1500 odds.

Jameson Williams Anytime TD (+110 at Sports Interaction)
My first choice has my sights squarely on Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams, who might bump right up to WR1 with Amon-Ra St. Brown potentially missing the contest (ankle). When the latter left the Thanksgiving outing early last Thursday, Williams stepped up with season-highs in receptions (7) and yards (144).
He also hauled in a touchdown, something he’s been able to achieve in five of his last seven duels. Williams will be facing an extremely suspect Cowboys secondary that’s surrendered the most passing TD’s on the campaign (28), including four last week versus the Chiefs.
In two career battles against the ‘Boys, Williams has been really solid, combining for 145 total yards and he’s found the end zone once. With odds longer than the top-three choices on the board, there’s some decent value there.
George Pickens Anytime TD (+130 at theScore Bet)
Next I’m looking towards the other sideline in Cowboys wideout George Pickens, who’s been outstanding in his first year with Big D. He’s second in the league with 1,142 receiving yards, and is tied for third in touchdowns, with eight. He’s racked up at least 78 yards in seven straight outings, and before last week had TD’s in back-to-back contests.
Much like the Cowboys, the Lions have also struggled in allowing opposing QB’s to torch them, as they’ve given up 25 pass TD’s on the season, which is third most in the league. Exactly like Dallas, the Lions surrendered four passing touchdowns on Thanksgiving to Green Bay.
Detroit has been dealing with a rash of injuries on both sides of the ball, with safety Kerby Joseph ruled out vs DAL (knee) and safety Brian Branch (toe) is questionable, so Pickens might have a field day Thursday evening.
Jahmyr Gibbs 2+ TD’s (+240 at FanDuel)
For my final selection I’m putting my trust in Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs to continue a pattern that he’s done in the last six outings. Starting with a Week 7 duel with Tampa Bay, Gibbs has alternated between two rushing touchdowns and zero TD’s in the last six skirmishes, which, if the pattern holds, he’d post two on Thursday.
Interestingly, the Lions are 7-0 this season when Gibbs scores a TD and 0-5 when he doesn’t. He’s already accumulated 44 TD’s in his first three campaigns, and should he post three vs Big D in this one, he’ll match Lions legend Barry Sanders for the most touchdowns in the first three seasons of a career (47). If he registers three, Gibbs would also have 52 times finding pay dirt, the most by anybody in history before turning 24 years of age (including playoffs).
If you’re feeling especially frisky, including Jameson Williams and George Pickens to have anytime TD’s and Jahmyr Gibbs to pick up a pair in a same-game TD parlay pays out a cool +1500.
