NFL Weather Forecasts for Wild Card – See How Weather Has Moved the Over/Under Odds in All Six Games
By Sascha Paruk in NFL News
Published:
- All six Wild Card Round games will be outdoors, with weather forecasts ranging from ideal to nightmarish
- Soldier Field (Packers/Bears) is expected to see winds up to 22 mph with near-freezing temps
- See the weather forecasts for all six games, plus the current game totals and line movement
The 2026 NFL Wild Card Round runs from Saturday, Jan. 10, to Monday, Jan. 12, and all six games will be in the elements in outdoor stadiums. Aside from Sunday’s Bills/Jaguars game in Jacksonville, winter weather could play a factor in all matchups. Weather conditions represent one of the most undervalued variables in NFL handicapping, capable of transforming a projected aerial circus into a grinding ground battle or rendering elite kickers unreliable from moderate distances. A 15-mph crosswind can neutralize a prolific passing attack, while unexpected precipitation shifts red-zone dynamics and field position battles entirely.
The Wild Card Round includes several intriguing meteorological storylines that could significantly impact both betting lines and fantasy production. The table below lists the low/high temperature ranges, wind conditions, and precipitation forecasts for all six games this weekend. The games in the table are listed in chronological order.
Complete Wild Card Round Weather Forecast
The worst wind conditions are projected to be at Soldier Field in Chicago, which also has the highest chance of precipitation (though it’s just 25%).

LA Rams @ CAR Panthers Weather & Line Movement
The Rams/Panthers game total hasn’t budged since opening at 46.5 last Sunday. The forecast in Charlotte calls for temperatures comfortably above zero with a minimal 15% chance of precipitation and 8-12 mph winds.
Overall, neither sportsbooks nor bettors are expecting weather to be much of a factor. The current NFL public betting percentages show 65% of over/under wagers on the over. Though the 49% of O/U handle on the under (on just 35% of wagers) is a potential sharp-money indicator.
GB Packers @ CHI Bears Weather & Line Movement
The most concerning weather situation is at Soldier Field, where sustained winds of 15-22 mph could create significant passing disruption. Historical data shows quarterback completion percentages drop approximately 4-6% in winds exceeding 15 mph, with deep-ball accuracy suffering the most pronounced impact.
The opening NFL Wild Card Round odds show that the Packers/Bears total was initially 47.5 O/U, meaning it has dropped as many as two points to 45.5 O/U. No books have it higher than 46.0 O/U as of mid-day Tuesday.
Jordan Love’s mobility and pocket presence will face a stern test against Chicago’s pass rush in these conditions, potentially favoring the Bears’ ground-and-pound approach with D’Andre Swift and fleet-footed Caleb Williams. The crosswind patterns at Soldier Field historically benefit teams that establish early rushing success, suggesting the under on team totals merits consideration.
Both kickers – Green Bay’s Brandon McManus and Chicago’s Cairo Santos – will face serious challenges on field-goal attempts from beyond 40 yards, where wind-affected kicks show a 68% success rate compared to 84% in calm conditions.
Santos has hit 83.3% of his kicks this season, going a solid 10-of-12 from 40 to 49 yards, and 4-of-6 from 50-plus.
McManus only hit 80% of his field-goal attempts, struggling from 40-plus-yards: 3-of-7 from 40 to 49 yards, and 3-of-5 from beyond 50.
SF 49ers @ PHI Eagles Forecast & Odds Movement
Lincoln Financial Field’s notorious wind patterns could significantly impact this high-profile NFC matchup, with sustained breezes of 12-18 mph expected throughout the afternoon. Brock Purdy’s precision passing attack faces disruption in these conditions, particularly on intermediate routes where timing proves critical.
Philadelphia’s defensive schemes traditionally perform well in windy conditions, utilizing aggressive coverage patterns that benefit from quarterbacks’ reduced accuracy on contested throws. The Eagles’ red-zone efficiency could prove decisive if both offenses struggle to maintain consistent drives. Historical trends show totals in Philadelphia dropping by an average of 3.2 points when wind speeds exceed 12 mph, creating potential value on the under.
Though bettors must note that the total has already dropped one to two points from the opening total of 46.5. FanDuel currently has the lowest total at 44.5 with -118 juice on the over, while DraftKings has the highest total at 45.5 with heavy juice on the under (-123).
Los Angeles Chargers @ New England Patriots Weather Forecast & Odds Movement
The temperature represents the primary concern for this West Coast-East Coast clash, with game-time conditions expected near freezing at Gillette Stadium. Justin Herbert’s completion percentage shows a notable 7% decline in sub-40-degree temperatures compared to his standard efficiency metrics.
New England’s experience in cold-weather games provides a legitimate home-field advantage, particularly in situational football where ball security and field-position battles intensify. The Chargers’ kicking game faces additional scrutiny, as warm-weather specialists historically struggle with trajectory adjustments in frigid conditions. Betting angles favor the Patriots’ ground game establishing early control, potentially making the first-half under an attractive proposition.
This total has actually increased a point at most books, from 45.5 to 46.5 in the latest NFL odds. Public-betting patterns show 53% of money and 68% of tickets on the over so far.
HOU Texans @ PIT Steelers Forecast & Line Movement
The conditions at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh are about as good as it gets for this time of year. The temperature will be near-freezing but no precipitation is expected, and the winds will be moderate. This total has moved from its opening number of 39.5, which was by far the lowest number on the board on Wild Card weekend.
