As they prepare to play host to the Colorado Avalanche in Game 4 of their Stanley Cup Western Conference semifinal, it’s deja vu all over again for the St Louis Blues.

St Louis is down 2-1 to the Avs. They are playing Game 4 at home and they’ve switched goalies.

In the opening round against Minnesota, St Louis rallied from 2-1 down to win the series in six games. But oddsmakers aren’t counting on a repeat performance.

It’s the Avalanche who are set as -160 road favorites in Game 4. The Blues are a solid 55-36 (60.4%) at covering the puckline this season.

David Perron (7), Ryan O’Reilly (7), Vladimir Tarasenko (5) and Jordan Kyrou (5) have accounted for 24 of the 30 playoff goals scored by St Louis. O’Reilly has scored in seven of eight games in these playoffs. However, there are 13 Blues players who played in the playoffs this spring that remain goalless.

The Blues had scored a power-play goal in eight straight playoff games until the streak was halted in Game 3. St Louis has won the past four series in which the set was deadlocked 1-1 after two games.

Colorado vs St Louis Injury Report

Injured in a goalmouth collision in the first period of Game 4, Blues goalie Jordan Binnington is out for the series. Defenseman Torey Krug (lower-body) is out, while defenseman Marco Scandella (lower-body) is questionable.

Colorado lost defenseman Samuel Girard to a broken sternum when he was hit hard into the boards by Blues forward Ivan Barbashev during Game 4. Defenseman Ryan Murray (hand) is out.

Blues Turning Back To Husso

Colorado goalie Darcy Kuemper established individual marks for games (57) and wins (37) during the 2021-22 NHL regular season.

He also set franchise records with a 12-game home winning streak and 18-game (16-0-2) points streak.

Blues vs Avalanche Projected Starting Goalies

Team Goalie Record SV% GAA
Avalanche Darcy Kuemper 4-1 .926 1.99
Blues Ville Husso 1-3 .891 3.38

Minus Binnington, the Blues turn back to Ville Husso, who was their starter when the playoffs began. Perhaps what’s most alarming about Husso’s .891 save percentage and 3.38 goals-against average is that he posted a shutout in Game 1 of the opening round against the Wild. He’s lost three in a row.

Veteran Charlie Lindgren was recalled from AHL Springfield to serve as Husso’s backup.

Blues vs Avalanche Game 4 Prediction

Colorado is 6-1 in the playoffs. That includes a perfect 3-0 slate on the road. But they may miss Girard more than the Blues will miss Binnington.

The Blues can ill-afford to lose Game 4 and head to Colorado down 3-1 and facing elimination. This is the season for St Louis.
