The Golden Knights have all the momentum in this series heading into Game 6. Vegas has won three straight games against Colorado after dropping the opening two games of the series, including a 3-2 OT victory Tuesday. Mark Stone was the Game 5 hero just 50 seconds into the extra frame as he beat Philipp Grubauer on a breakaway.

Vegas continues to get big-time productions from its top forwards, which is something that can’t be said for Colorado. Jonathan Marchessault has five goals and two assists during a five-game point streak, while linemate William Karlsson has one goal and four assists in his last three games.

Vegas goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury is proving why he earned a Vezina Trophy nomination with superb goaltending against the Avalanche. The “Flower” has turned away 45 of 48 shots in consecutive victories and is sporting a .925 save percentage this postseason. Fleury rebounded well in Game 5 after allowing a soft goal to Brandon Saad at the end of the first period.

If the Avalanche had played a more responsible game Tuesday evening, we’d likely be talking about them having the chance to eliminate Vegas in Game 6. Jared Bednar’s team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in Game 6, but some costly turnovers led to Vegas clawing their way back. Prior to Tuesday, Colorado was was 34-1-1 when leading after two periods in the regular season and playoffs.

Colorado arguably outplayed Vegas in Game 5, controlling the majority of play and outshooting them 30-25. Not to mention, Natural Stat Trick logged the high-danger changes 12-6 in Colorado’s favor at 5-on-5. This was the type of bounce-back effort the Avalanche needed after getting outplayed for eight periods prior to Game 5.

Bednar also made some promising lineup moves that should exude confidence for Game 6. Logan O’Connor made his playoff debut Tuesday and brought great energy, while Alex Newhook was re-inserted into the lineup and impressed with a great assist. Saad was also bumped up to the top line and is red-hot with seven goals in eight games.

Will Avs’ Top Players Show Up?

If you believe in the talent of Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog and Cale Makar, you should bet on there being a Game 7 in Colorado. The Avs’ best players have to show up to this series and will need a big effort at T-Mobile Arena on Thursday.

Mackinnon and Landeskog each have only one assist in the past four games, while Makar has no points and is a minus-3 in consecutive losses.

There’s no doubting the talent on the Avalanche, as they won the Presidents’ Trophy for good reason. The issue is line matching and the goaltending of Fleury. Mark Stone’s line has done a tremendous job at neutralizing the MacKinnon line. Bednar was able to get the trio out against Marchassault’s line Tuesday, but Pete DeBoer will have the matchup advantage in Game 6.

Game 6 Best Bet 

While it’s hard to bet against Vegas at T-Mobile Arena, it’s very rare that the Avalanche are available as plus-money underdogs. Aside from the brutal turnovers, their effort in Game 5 was promising given how lifeless they appeared in the previous few games. This is a series that has always appeared destined to go seven games.

MacKinnon is being neutralized, but Colorado has other weapons capable of stepping up if the superstar doesn’t find his game. This Avalanche team won two straight games in the second round last year vs Dallas when their backs were against the wall. Colorado showed enough positives in Game 5 to make them a good value bet to extend the series with a Game 6 victory in Vegas.
