Avalanche vs Kraken Prediction, Picks, Odds & Projected Lineups for Thursday Night Hockey
By Brady Trettenero in NHL Hockey
Published:
- Colorado has won five straight against Seattle, including a 5-3 win at Climate Pledge Arena in December
- Martin Necas leads the NHL in points since the Olympic break with 15 (seven goals, eight assists) in six games
- My Avalanche vs Kraken prediction, picks and odds are below, along with projected lineups for Thursday’s late game
The Colorado Avalanche (43-11-9) visit the Seattle Kraken (29-25-9) Thursday night at Climate Pledge Arena. Colorado leads the Central Division and has won five of six since the Olympic break. Seattle is clinging to the final Western Conference Wild Card spot despite losing three straight.
The Avs are dealing with some fallout from Tuesday’s 4-3 loss to Edmonton. Ross Colton left with an upper-body injury, and Nathan MacKinnon was assessed a game misconduct that has since been rescinded by the league. MacKinnon leads the NHL with 43 goals.
Puck drop is at 10 pm ET on ESPN+. Here are my Avalanche vs Kraken prediction and picks.
Avalanche vs Kraken Prediction
- Avalanche -1.5 (+120 at Bet365)
I’m taking Colorado on the puck line for my Avalanche vs Kraken prediction. The Avs are 5-0 in their last five meetings with Seattle, and five straight of those wins have come at Climate Pledge Arena. That’s one of the longest home losing streaks to any opponent in Kraken franchise history.
Avalanche vs Kraken Key Stats
Colorado ranks first in the NHL in goals for, goals against, shots per game, and save percentage. The shot differential gap is staggering: the Avs are +7.44 per game while Seattle is -3.97. The Kraken have only outshot their opponent in 18 games all season, second-fewest in the league. Colorado has done it 48 times.
Blackwood vs Daccord Stats
Blackwood made 35 saves in the 5-3 win here in December and has a .916 save percentage on the season. Daccord has been solid, but he’ll face a much heavier workload than Blackwood. Colorado generates 34 shots per game while Seattle allows nearly 30. The Avs are 5-0 as road favorites in their last five and 40-10 overall when favored this season.
Avalanche vs Kraken Picks
- Martin Necas Over 1.5 Points (+138 at FanDuel)

I’m starting my Avalanche vs Kraken picks with Martin Necas, who’s been the hottest player in the NHL since the break.
The Czech forward set a career high with his 29th goal Tuesday against Edmonton and leads the NHL in points since the Olympic break (seven goals, eight assists, 15 points in six games). He’s on MacKinnon’s wing and getting top power-play time.
Against a Kraken PK that ranks dead last in the league (72.8%), Necas is a great bet for a multi-point night at +138.
- Cale Makar Over 0.5 Assists (-134 at Bet365)
SPORTSBOOK
Makar has 19 points in 12 career games against Seattle (five goals, 14 assists). He’s averaging 25:05 of ice time and 4:16 of power-play time per game, and he’s been on fire since the break with four goals and nine points in six games.
Makar needs just one goal for his third straight 20-goal season, a feat only seven defensemen have accomplished since the merger. I’m expecting him to be very active tonight, showing up on the scoresheet in the process.
- Eeli Tolvanen Over 1.5 Shots on Goal (-135 at Caesars)

Wrapping up my Avalanche vs Kraken picks, I’m going with Eli Tolvanen shots on goal. The Finn has 108 shots on goal in 61 games this season (1.77 per game) and has cleared 2+ shots in 12 of his last 16 games.
He’s on the second line and second power-play unit, averaging 16:16 of ice time per game, up from 14:19 last year. Seattle put 45 shots on net Tuesday despite the loss, so the pace should be there.
Avalanche vs Kraken Odds
Odds as of March 12 via consensus sportsbooks. New customers can claim the FanDuel promo code and bet on tonight’s NHL odds.
The Avalanche vs Kraken odds have Colorado as a heavy road favorite at -200. Colorado’s implied win probability is 66.7%, while oddsmakers are giving Seattle a 35.7% implied chance as +180 underdogs. The road team has won eight of the last 10 meetings in this series.
The over has hit in four of the last six meetings, but the under is 4-1-1 in the last six specifically in Seattle. Both teams’ under trends have been hot recently as well.
Avalanche vs Kraken Projected Lineups
Colorado Avalanche Projected Lines
Forwards:
Nazem Kadri – Nathan MacKinnon – Martin Necas
Parker Kelly – Brock Nelson – Valeri Nichushkin
Zakhar Bardakov – Nicolas Roy – Gavin Brindley
Jack Drury – Joel Kiviranta
Defense:
Devon Toews – Cale Makar
Josh Manson – Brent Burns
Brett Kulak – Sam Malinski
Goalie: Mackenzie Blackwood (expected)
Injuries: Ross Colton (upper body, questionable), Artturi Lehkonen (upper body), Gabriel Landeskog (lower body), Logan O’Connor (hip, out indefinitely)
Seattle Kraken Projected Lines
Forwards:
Jared McCann – Matty Beniers – Jordan Eberle
Eeli Tolvanen – Chandler Stephenson – Frederick Gaudreau
Berkly Catton – Shane Wright – Kaapo Kakko
Ryan Winterton – Ben Meyers – Jacob Melanson
Defense:
Vince Dunn – Adam Larsson
Ryan Lindgren – Brandon Montour
Jamie Oleksiak – Ryker Evans
Goalie: Joey Daccord (expected)
Injuries: Jaden Schwartz (face, out indefinitely), Matt Murray (lower body, out indefinitely), Bobby McMann (not injury related, visa issues)
Colorado may be down to 10 forwards again if Colton can’t go. Coach Jared Bednar said Tuesday that Colton tightened up after taking a hit and was hopeful he’d loosen up in time for Thursday. Even shorthanded, the Avs’ top six of MacKinnon, Necas, Kadri, Nelson, and Nichushkin is deeper than most teams’ full lineup.
Seattle is still waiting on trade deadline pickup Bobby McMann, who has been dealing with visa issues since his acquisition from Toronto.
