  • The Blues are a -120 moneyline road favorite over the Blackhawks on Wednesday, Jan. 7th
  • St. Louis has won eight of ten duels against their Central Division rivals

The puck drops Wednesday night in a battle between two teams currently outside the playoff picture in the Western Conference. The timing couldn’t be better with Missouri sports betting apps now live.

St. Louis (17-18-8, 42 pts, 21-22 ATS) squares off against Chicago (17-18-7, 41 pts, 29-13 ATS), with both squads battling to get back into the thick of things in the West. The Blues find themselves three points out of the final Wild Card spot, while the Blackhawks are four points back. Hawks star forward Connor Bedard is back at practice following an 11-game absence, though it’s not expected he’ll suit up tonight.

Action is set to get underway at 8:30 pm CT / 9:30 pm ET from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, with TNT/HBO Max/tru TV providing the coverage in the United States.

Blues vs Blackhawks Prediction

My Blues vs Blackhawks prediction is that St. Louis will grab a victory, but yet Chicago will cover the spread (an incredible 29-13 ATS this season).

Neither team is among the favorites in the Stanley Cup Odds, with St. Louis sitting at +25000 and Chicago +50000.

In eight of the last ten meetings between these two squads, the Blues have come out on top, including their meeting last month, a 3-2 triumph.

Spencer Knight will start for the Hawks, and he’s struggled in his career against St. Louis, dropping four of five, with a 3.83 GAA and .866 save %. As of posting it’s unconfirmed who will be between the pipes for the Blues, but Joel Hofer has three wins in four career starts vs Chicago, allowing two or fewer goals on all but one occasion. If it’s Jordan Binnington, he’s coming off his first shutout of the campaign against Montreal.

It’d be bad news for Blues fans if our SBD model is correct. It has the Hawks pulling off the upset 3.52-3.21, which points to over 5.5 goals being scored in the Blues vs Blackhawks contest and the home squad covering the spread. However, given St. Louis’ dominance in the series, I’m sticking with them.

STL vs CHI Season Stats/Ranks

17.3% (24th)Power Play21.2% (12th)
78.4% (20th)Penalty Kill83.8% (4th)

Both teams are almost carbon copies of each other, separated by just a point. Truth be told, it’s somewhat of a shock that the Blues are at least treading water, given that they’re last in scoring and sixth worst in goals against.

The Hawks have struggled to score, in particular since Connor Bedard went down with a shoulder injury, but their special teams are solid. Since the 2023 1st overall pick hasn’t competed, CHI is 4-6-1, scoring 2.27 goals per game, compared to 2.94 GF/GP when Bedard was healthy. However, they have won three straight to right the ship.

Blues vs Blackhawks Prop Picks

For a prop bet, I’m going with the Blues leading sniper Justin Faulk to light the lamp. Interestingly, he leads the team in goals despite being a blueliner, with eleven on the season. He also has found the back of the net three times in his last six skirmishes versus the Hawks, and has five goals in his last eleven overall battles.

What makes him very intriguing are his +550 odds, which are longer than the top-15 players on the betting board!

If you want to parlay the Blues skating away with a victory, along with Justin Faulk to score, that payout is a cool +660 on FanDuel.
