The New York Islanders and Boston Bruins continue their best-of-seven series. Game 4 will be played on Saturday, June 5th (7:25 pm ET) at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and will be broadcast on NBC.

Boston is currently listed as a decent -143 road favorite to go up three games to one.

Can the Boston Bruins take a commanding lead or will the New York Islanders tie the series again?

New York Was So Close

There were times when the Boston Bruins looked dominant in Game 3 like they were during portions of the first game of the series. Chances were coming fast and furious as the New York Islanders only had Semyon Varlamov to lean on. However, when all was said and done, New York and Boston were pretty even at even-strength. Their expected goals for were an identical 2.07. New York dominated most of the overtime (4-0 in scoring chances and both high-danger chances).

The Islanders just could not figure out a way to solve Tuukka Rask in the extra session. Rask was his usual steady, easy-going self. He made the saves needed and a couple of pretty nifty ones too. The Boston goaltender stopped 28 of 29 shots

The way New York kind of sprung up and won Game 2 in overtime was the way Boston won Game 3 in overtime.

Boston did not certainly expect it and to be honest, Semyon Varlamov clearly did not expect it either. Was it one the Russian goaltender needed to have? Absolutely. The Bruins were getting outplayed throughout the first five minutes of the overtime session.

Granted, it was a tough angle but again, it is a shot that Varlamov probably saves 99 times out of 100. There was just one problem.

This was that one.

Can New York Bounce Back?

When the Boston Bruins beat the Washington Capitals in overtime of Game 3 of their first-round series, Washington never truly recovered. Boston went on to easily take Game 4 and then won pretty decisively in Game 5. Unlike Boston, New York has some underdog value in this series. New York is also 3-0 in these playoffs after a loss. They got off the mat against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

For one, despite an early turnover that led to a goal, Mathew Barzal tied the game late for New York.

Maybe the most encouraging thing about Game 3 for the Islanders was how dangerous Barzal looked after that early Boston goal. He knew he made a mistake and spent the rest of the game trying to atone for it. His goal was pure muck and grind. Yes, he had several other nice scoring chances as well but now Barzal had arrived in this series.

Bruins vs Islanders Best Bet

The Bruins carry some solid odds on Saturday night to extend their series lead to three games to one over the New York Islanders. Boston enjoyed plenty of scoring chances from their top six at even strength. However, an awakening Barzal will spark the offense. Also, the Islanders have looked somewhat better on the power play in this series going 3 for 9.

One key will be the Islanders’ never worry attitude. Mathew Barzal understands the coach and team philosophy.

New York sees the way to contain Boston slowly but surely. It will not be easy to completely corral Boston’s top two lines but the Islanders have done it before. My pick is the New York moneyline for Game 4.

Pick: New York Islanders Moneyline (+123)
