The Boston Bruins look to pad their lead atop the NHL standings with a fifth straight road victory when they visit the New York Islanders in Wednesday NHL action. The Bruins closed out a three-game home stand with Monday’s 6-0 rout of the Philadelphia Flyers to improve to 6-1 straight up in their past seven overall. With Monday’s 4-3 loss to Washington, the Islanders have lost five of their past six contests including three of the first four dates on their current home stand.
Start time is set for 7:30pm ET at UBS Arena, with all the action televised on TNT and NESN.
The Bruins open their two-day, two-game swing through New York as -195 favorites in the NHL odds, while the Islanders lag as +162 home underdogs. The total is pegged at just 5.5, with OVER sporting shortened -120 odds.

Bruins vs Islanders Recent History
Wednesday night’s matchup marks the first of three regular-season meetings between these clubs. The Bruins have won two straight in head-to-head action, both on home ice, ending a five-game losing streak against the Islanders that features losses in each of their past four visits to New York.
While the OVER has prevailed in each of their past two dates, the UNDER has gone 4-1-1 in their past six clashes on the Island.
Boston Bruins Betting Outlook
The Bruins continued to roll in Monday’s 6-0 demolition of the Flyers. Boston shooters have filled the net during the club’s 6-1 SU run, averaging four goals per game, and have backed up that firepower with a stingy defense that has limited opponents to a meager 1.17 goals per game.

David Pastrnak is coming off yet another big performance in Monday’s victory. Pastrnak scored twice and added an assist, extending a steady offensive run that has produced 10 goals and 12 points in his past six outings, including multi-point performances in each of his past three road appearances.
Pastrnak has also tallied at least five shots on goal in 11 of 16 outings since racking up seven shots in last month’s win over New York, adding value to the -109 odds of him recording OVER 4.5 shots on Wednesday.
New York Islanders Betting Outlook
The Islanders have tumbled to the edge of the playoff picture during their current 2-6 SU run, and have seen their odds to make the playoffs dip to as long as +130. A prolonged scoring slump has not helped the club snap out of its current funk. The Isles have potted just 2.13 goals per game over their past eight contests, and have tallied two or fewer goals in seven of their past nine overall contests.

The scoring drought has impacted the team’s top two scorers. Mat Barzal has been held off the scoresheet in each of the past four games while Brock Nelson has picked up just one point in his past six appearances. On a positive note, Anthony Beauvillier has shown signs that he has put an eight-game pointless run behind him by scoring once and adding a helper over the past two games, and has recorded six points over his past 10 appearances against Boston.
The Islanders’ anemic attack has added to the burden shouldered by the goaltending tandem of Ilya Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov. Sorokin has been steady while getting the lion’s share of starts, limiting opponents to two or fewer goals in 12 of his past 16 starts, and has compiled an impressive .929 save percentage while going 5-3-2 over his past 10 outings.
Bruins vs Islanders Prediction
While the Islanders have enjoyed the benefit of steady goaltending, they are very much outclassed by the Bruins in every other department. If Boston can maintain the momentum that generated 10 goals over their past two outings while limiting opponents to just 21.5 shots per game, it could prove to be a very long night for Islanders defenders.
The Picks: Bruins -1.5 (+140); OVER 5.5 (-120)
