The Winnipeg Jets and Montreal Canadiens are set to kickoff their second round 2021 Stanley Cup Playoff series on Wednesday, June 2nd. Both teams pulled off shocking upsets in the opening round to advance onto Round 2.

The Jets are listed as heavy favorites to win Game 1 after winning six of nine games against Montreal during the regular season. Puck drop is set for 7:30 PM EST at Bell MTS Place. The game will be broadcast on NBCSN.

Should you bet Winnipeg to take Game 1, or are the Habs a smart underdog bet?

Jets Dominated Season Series

Winnipeg is heavily favored to win Game 1 partly due to the fact they dominated Montreal in the regular season. The Jets took six of nine meetings with the Habs, including three of the last four meetings. Kyle Connor had 10 points (six goals) in the series, while Nikolaj Ehlers racked up nine points (four goals).

Winnipeg only outscored Montreal 31-28, however, as three of the Jets’ victories came in overtime. These two teams are pretty evenly matched, and the Habs even beat the Jets 7-1 in one of the meetings. Tyler Toffoli was a force against the Jets with nine points (six goals) in the season series.

Price vs Hellebuyck In Epic Goalie Battle

Two of the best goalies in the world will be facing off in this North Division playoff series. Carey Price posted a .932 save percentage in Round 1 to lead the Habs past the Maple Leafs, while Hellebuyck recorded an insane .950 save percentage to help the Jets upset the Oilers.

While there’s no denying the talent level of these two goalies, it’s interesting that the “over” cashed in all but one of the nine regular-season meetings between the two clubs. Hellebuyck was the better of the two goalies with a .916 save percentage, while Price struggled with a .903 save percentage in four starts.

Jets Will Be Rested

Winnipeg has a big rest advantage heading into Game 1 against the Habs. Paul Maurice’s club has been off for over a week after sweeping the Oilers in Round 1. This is crucial heading into Round 2, as three of the four games against Edmonton went into OT. Furthermore, Ehlers and Pierre-Luc Dubois both dealt with injuries in Round 1 and may have not been 100 percent when they returned.

The Habs could be gassed coming into the series considering they just played Game 7 against Toronto on Monday. We recently saw Colorado explode on Vegas in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series after a long layoff. The Avalanche had plenty of rest after sweeping the Blues, while the Knights had played a Game 7 a few days prior.

Canadiens vs Jets Game 1 Best Bet

The goalies are likely going to be the story in this series, and that’s why you need to back the Jets in Game 1. Not only was Hellebuyck much better than Price in the season series, but he’s had significantly more time to rest and prepare for the series. Price faced the most rubber of any North Division goalie in Round 1 and is coming off a pressure cooker Game 7.

Montreal was able to defeat Toronto by relying on Price and using Phillip Danault’s line to shut down the Auston Matthews’ line. The Jets have two elite scoring lines and much better goaltending than Toronto. Back Winnipeg on home ice to take advantage of a fatigued Habs team in Game 1.

Pick: Winnipeg Jets ML (-134)
