Capitals vs Devils Picks, Predictions, Odds & Props (April 2)

- New Jersey is 5-1 as a favorite in its last six games and 4-1 following a loss

Washington (37-28-9) has won two straight but now has to carry that momentum into a building where New Jersey (40-24-10) has been dominant lately. The Devils have seen the over cash in seven of their last eight home games, and they’ll be looking to bounce back after a loss.
The Capitals will be without Aliaksei Protas (upper body), removing a key piece from their top six.
Puck drop is at 7:30 pm ET from the Prudential Center. My Capitals vs Devils picks, predictions and odds are below.

Capitals vs Devils Predictions
- Devils Moneyline (-110 at Bet365)
- Over 6.5 Goals (+105 at DraftKings)
I’ve got two Capitals vs Devils predictions for Thursday. New Jersey on the moneyline and the over.
The Devils are 5-1 as a favorite over their last six and 4-1 following a loss. Washington has been the opposite on the road, going 1-8 away from home after a win in its last nine attempts. That’s a massive situational gap for a game priced as a near pick’em.
Capitals vs Devils Key Stats
The over has cashed in seven of New Jersey’s last eight home games and in four straight following a loss. Neither team has received elite goaltending this season, with both save percentages sitting below .900. New Jersey’s power play at 22.5% is a significant edge over Washington’s 17.8% unit, and the Devils generate nearly 30 shots per game at home.
Plus money on the over in a game between two sub-.900 save percentage teams at a building where goals have been flowing is where I want to be.
Capitals vs Devils Picks
Three Capitals vs Devils picks on the prop side for Thursday night.
- Alex Ovechkin Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-179 at Bet365)
Ovechkin has cleared 2.5 shots in six straight games against opponents with a winning record, averaging 3.5 per game. He’s also gone over in nine of his last 10 following a team win.
The juice is heavy, but a combined 94% hit rate across those two trends is hard to argue with.
- Connor Brown Over 0.5 Points (-127 at DraftKings)
Brown has recorded a point in six straight games as a favorite, averaging 1.5 per game during that stretch. He skates on New Jersey’s second line with Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt, which is about as good a setup as you’ll find.
- Jack Hughes Over 0.5 Assists (-151 at FanDuel)
Wrapping up my Capitals vs Devils picks, I’m taking Hughes to record an assist. He’s dished one out in 10 of his last 13 games after a loss, averaging 1.0 per game in those spots.
Hughes is the primary playmaker on New Jersey’s power play, and with Washington’s penalty kill sitting at 80.0%, he should get his chances. Both teams are still in the mix for the NHL playoff bracket, so expect an intense pace.
Capitals vs Devils Odds
The interactive widget above will update automatically as the Capitals vs Devils odds move throughout the day. Check out the full slate on our NHL odds page.
This game is priced as close to a toss-up as it gets. New Jersey’s -110 moneyline carries an implied probability of about 52%, while Washington’s -105 gives the Caps roughly a 51% implied chance. The spread is essentially off the table, with both sides sitting at -258 and -275 on the +1.5.
The total is set at 6.5, with the over at +105 and the under at -118. Getting plus money on the over in a game where seven of the home team’s last eight games have gone over is a gift from the books. You can use the Caesars Sportsbook promo code to bet on the NHL tonight.
