The puck drops on Wednesday Night Hockey, featuring an interconference battle between the Devils and Blackhawks. New Jersey is tops in the Eastern Conference (11-4-1, 7-9 ATS), while Chicago (8-5-3, 13-3 ATS) has been a revelation after going through a lengthy rebuild, good for fourth in the Central Division.
Action is set to get underway at 9:30 pm ET from the United Center in Chicago, IL, with TNT, truTV and HBO Max providing the coverage in the United States.
Devils vs Blackhawks Prediction
New Jersey is on the periphery of contenders in the Stanley Cup Odds, at +1800, while oddsmakers aren’t sold on Chicago, despite their solid start, as they’re +40000 to win Lord Stanley.
Historically, the Devils have been the better bet to win outright and on the puckline, as they’ve taken eight of nine against the Hawks, with all but one of those victories by at least two goals.
However, I’m willing to look past that, considering Chicago has been a dumpster fire for many years. I’m looking at this campaign, with Chicago coming off three straight decisive triumphs (outscoring teams 14-3), while New Jersey has sputtered of late, dropping four of seven, and they’re 4-4-0 on the road this season.
I also love how the Hawks have done a dramatic 180 with their goaltending, with Spencer Knight really stabilizing the crease. NJ hasn’t potted more than two snipes in four of their last six battles.
Chicago’s prized prospect in 2023, first overall selection Connor Bedard, has also been turning heads with an eight-game point streak, putting him squarely on Team Canada’s radar for the 2026 Olympic roster.
NJ vs CHI Season Stats/Ranks
Both of these squads are very similarly matched in terms of their stats so far on the campaign. They’ve scored the exact same number of goals, and both are very sharp on special teams. Perhaps surprisingly, Chicago is third in goals against per game after being the second-worst just a season ago.
Highly touted goaltender Spencer Knight, who came to the Hawks via trade for Seth Jones last year, has lived up to the hype, posting a 2.33 GAA and a .926 save percentage, good for second among qualified goalies.
Jacob Markstrom is expected to get the nod in net for the Devils – he’s 4-2-1, but has posted a ghastly 3.82 GAA and .872 save %. He missed a few weeks with a lower-body injury, and upon his return, he has allowed 16 goals in four contests.
That makes me even more bullish on an upset being pulled, adding on that he’s given up three or more goals in five of his last seven versus Chicago.
Devils vs Blackhawks Prop Pick
- Connor Bedard 2+ points (+185)
For a prop bet in this affair, I’m going with 2023 first overall pick Connor Bedard to continue his torrid pace. He’s racked up 25 points, fourth most in the NHL, a whopping eleven more points than his next closest teammates (Tyler Bertuzzi, Andre Burakovsky with 14 points).
Bedard is on an eight-game point streak, with 18 points in that span, and five of those eight affairs have been multi-point outings. If he gets on the scoresheet this evening, he’ll match a career-high nine-game point streak.
If you want to parlay the Blackhawks to win on the ML plus Bedard to reach 2+ points, that total pays out +300.

Per the NHL odds, the road squad is a significant favorite in this Devils vs Blackhawks contest. Our SBD formula has the Hawks pulling off the upset 3.41-3.17, which points to Chicago covering the +1.5 spread and over 6.5 goals being scored. That dovetails perfectly with my prediction that the underdogs will skate away with a victory.
