The Vegas Golden Knights (36-26-17) hit the road Saturday night to face the Colorado Avalanche (52-16-10) at Ball Arena. The two Western Conference contenders enter with very different stakes on the table.
Colorado has already clinched the Presidents’ Trophy and home ice throughout the playoffs, so the final four games are for style points. Vegas, on the other hand, is in a three-team scrum with Edmonton and Anaheim for the Pacific Division title.
Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. ET. Here are my Golden Knights vs Avalanche prediction, picks, odds and projected starting goalies.

I’m taking the Golden Knights at plus money for my Golden Knights vs Avalanche prediction. The motivation gap is the key here.
Vegas is fighting for everything. The Knights trail Edmonton by a point for the Pacific Division title and are tied with Anaheim, with just three games remaining after this one. They can clinch a playoff spot outright with a win, and they’re playing for home ice through two rounds.
Colorado has zero stakes left. The Avalanche locked up the Presidents’ Trophy with their win over Calgary on Thursday and are now in load-management mode. Cale Makar (upper body) hasn’t played since March 30, and Nazem Kadri is dealing with a finger injury. Both could sit again with the playoffs as the only thing that matters.
The Knights have also looked sharp under interim coach John Tortorella. Vegas won its first four games under Torts after firing Bruce Cassidy on March 29, with a streak that only ended with an OT loss in Seattle on Thursday. That’s four points from a possible 10 for a team playing with desperation.
Getting +116 on a desperate Vegas team against a Colorado squad that’s coasting is a spot I want to be in.
Golden Knights vs Avalanche Picks
- Nathan MacKinnon Anytime Goal (check at DraftKings)
I’m starting my Golden Knights vs Avalanche picks with Nathan MacKinnon to find the back of the net. He sits at 52 goals on the season and is in a real chase with Montreal’s Cole Caufield (50 goals) for the Rocket Richard Trophy.
Even with the Avalanche resting some pieces, MacKinnon has a personal milestone to chase. Two more goals would clinch the Rocket Richard outright, and he’s the type of player who plays every shift like it matters. Expect him to be on the ice in every key spot.
- Martin Necas Over 0.5 Points (check at DraftKings)
Martin Necas is two points away from his first career 100-point season, and he’s locked in on hitting that mark before the regular season ends. He skates on the top line with MacKinnon and Artturi Lehkonen and runs the top power play.
The Avalanche aren’t going to ease off their stars who are chasing milestones, and Necas is one of the more reliable point producers in the league when he’s deployed in his usual role.
- Jack Eichel Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (check at DraftKings)
Wrapping up my Golden Knights vs Avalanche picks, I’m going back to Jack Eichel on the shots prop. The Vegas captain has been firing the puck all season and will be relied on heavily with the division title on the line.
Eichel centers Vegas’s top line with Ivan Barbashev and Mark Stone, and against a Colorado defense missing Cale Makar, he should get plenty of room to attack. With William Karlsson out, Eichel’s role only grows in importance.
Golden Knights vs Avalanche Odds
Odds as of April 11 at consensus sportsbooks. Check out SBD’s DraftKings promo code to bet on Saturday’s NHL action.
The Golden Knights vs Avalanche odds have Colorado as a slight -125 favorite, which translates to roughly a 56% implied probability. Vegas at +116 gives the Knights about a 46% implied chance, which feels like value given the motivation edge.
Lines are moving across different books. DraftKings currently has Vegas at +116 with Colorado at -125, while other shops have Colorado closer to -135. If you’re shopping the moneyline, the +116 at DraftKings is the best price on the road dog right now.

Golden Knights vs Avalanche Projected Starting Goalies
Carter Hart vs Scott Wedgewood Stats
Carter Hart is the expected starter for Vegas. He’s gone 8-3-3 in his stint with the Knights, and while his .880 save percentage isn’t elite, he’s been good enough to keep Vegas in games during their playoff push.
Scott Wedgewood has been a revelation for Colorado, posting a 29-6-6 record with a 2.10 GAA and a .918 save percentage. He’s been one of the steadiest goalies in the league this season, but with the Avalanche locked into the No. 1 seed, there’s a real chance Colorado rolls with the struggling Mackenzie Blackwood.
That goalie uncertainty is another reason I like Vegas tonight. If Colorado rests Wedgewood, the gap in net narrows considerably.
