- The Islanders are a -114 road moneyline favorite over the Kraken on Wednesday, Jan. 21st
- Both teams have been involved in plenty of games with lots of scoring recently
- See my Islanders vs Kraken predictions below, plus prop pick and lineups
The puck drops Wednesday in a battle between two squads that are battling in postseason races in both the East and West, with not much separating the Isles in a postseason spot and the Kraken barely on the outside looking in.
New York (27-17-5, 27-22 ATS, 59 pts) square off against Seattle (21-18-9, 33-15 ATS, 51 pts), with the Islanders second in the Metro, and the Kraken sixth in the Pacific.
Action is set to get underway at 6:30 pm PT / 9:30 pm ET from Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington, with TNT/HBO Max/truTV providing the coverage in the United States.
Islanders vs Kraken Prediction
- Over 5.5 Goals (-110 at FanDuel)
My Islanders vs Kraken prediction has there being goals aplenty in this one. Both teams have had plenty of recent duels that point towards at least six goals being scored. In seven of the last nine NYI skirmishes, the over 5.5 total has hit, and that’s been the case in seven of ten for SEA. If you’re inclined to wager on one side to win on the puck line, four of the last five meetings have been a tight, one goal battle, three of which wound up ending in a shootout.
Per the NHL odds, it’s extremely close in the betting odds between the Islanders vs Kraken with our SBD formula predicting a 3.30-3.07 NYI tally, which points to over 5.5 goals. The Isles have alternated wins and losses in their last seven (if this continues, they’d lose to Seattle), while the Kraken have really been on a downturn, dropping six of seven, the last three of which by multiple goals.
The goaltending matchup is expected to feature Ilya Sorokin (NYI) vs Philipp Grubauer (SEA). The former has been something of an enigma recently, allowing at least three to light the lamp in five of seven, but the two outliers resulted in shutouts. The latter had given up exactly one goal in four consecutive starts, but since then, has allowed 13 goals in four battles.
NYI vs SEA Season Stats/Ranks
Filling the scoresheet hasn’t been the Islanders forte this season, as they rank in the 20’s for goals and on the man advantage. Where they shine is defensively, which might not be a huge surprise, given their coach Patrick Roy is a HOF goaltender, and they have Ilya Sorokin between the pipes.
Seattle has been able to stay afloat, despite not scoring a ton and also featuring the worst PK in the National Hockey League. They’ve surrendered 16 markers in the last three duels, and have one victory in the last seven (1-4-2).
Islanders vs Kraken Props Pick
- Anthony Duclair Anytime Goal Scorer (+270 at FanDuel)
For a prop bet, I’m going to ride the scorching hot hand of Anthony Duclair, who is an extremely streaky player. After registering a very disappointing four goals in his first 39 affairs, Duclair has exploded for seven snipes in his last seven battles. That includes a hat trick January 6th vs New Jersey, and two goals in his latest outing against Vancouver.
If you want to parlay over 5.5 goals being scored, plus Duclair to find the back of the net, that total pays out a cool +370.
Islanders vs Kraken Odds
The Islanders are slight -114 moneyline favorites and are laying 1.5 goals on the puck line at +220. The Kraken come back as a -105 underdog, while the total currently sits at 5.5 goals at FanDuel.
The implied win probability of NYI at -114 is 53.3%. You’d need to wager $114 on the favorites to win $100, while a $105 bet on the underdogs clears $100.

Updated odds via FanDuel Sportsbook as of 1:30 p.m. ET on Jan. 21.
