It’s win or go home tonight for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers in Game 7 of their second-round series. Both teams are very familiar with the sudden death pressure of Game 7, albeit with very different results. Toronto has lost six straight Game 7s in the NHL playoff bracket. Florida on the other hand, is 3-1 all-time in Game 7, while head coach Paul Maurice is 5-0 in this scenario.

The Panthers have dominated puck possession and scoring chances at even strength all series, and I’m banking on that continuing with my Leafs vs Panthers player prop picks.

Toronto’s Auston Matthews boasts the shortest odds to score and the highest shots over/under for tonight’s pivotal clash. Teammate Mitch Marner is the most likely player to record a point or assist according to oddsmakers, despite having just one over the last three games.

My favorite player prop to target tonight is over 2.5 shots for the Panthers’ Carter Verhaeghe. I’m also betting Florida’s Brad Marchand to record at least one point at plus-money odds, as he looks to improve to 5-0 in his career against the Leafs in Game 7s.

Leafs vs Panthers Best NHL Prop Pick #1: Carter Verhaeghe Over 2.5 Shots

  • Carter Verhaeghe Over 2.5 Shots (-135 at DraftKings)

Verhaeghe has scored only twice this series so far, but it hasn’t been due to a lack of opportunity. The 29-year-old has three games with 3+ shots on goal versus Toronto, and has created the second most expected goals on the team behind Sam Reinhart.

Verhaeghe has logged the third most ice-time among Panthers forwards, and is a focal point on the team’s number one powerplay unit. He’s generated 48 shot attempts and 27 scoring chances, second only to Rehinhart.

Furthermore, he tends to elevate his game when the stakes are the highest. He had a goal and an assist in last year’s Game 7 Stanley Cup clincher against the Oilers, and scored in Florida’s series winning game last round versus Tampa Bay. He has 7 points in his last five playoff elimination games and is going to be a big problem for the Leafs tonight.

FLA vs TOR Prop Pick #2: Brad Marchand 1+ Point

  • Brad Marchand 1+ Points (+130 at FanDuel)

Speaking of thorns in Toronto’s side, there’s no bigger one than Marchand. He’s been a Leafs killer his whole career, and how ironic is it that he can knock them out of the playoffs again this year, after choosing Florida over the Buds at the trade deadline.

YouTube video

Marchand has 4 points in six games against the Leafs so far this series, after racking up 8 points last postseason versus Toronto while playing for Boston. He produced 9 points in another 7-game series against the Leafs back in 2019 en route to a Stanley Cup Finals run.

Bottom line, he’s the type of player you loathe to play against in Game 7s, and someone who can put your team over the top in the Stanley Cup odds. He’s won everything there is to win in this sport, and routinely finds a way to show up on the biggest stage. Win or lose, I’m convinced he’s finding the scoresheet tonight.
