Surging Caps Feast On Tired Rangers

Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals will be looking for their 10th win in 11 games when they host the Rangers on Sunday afternoon. Washington has climbed back to the top of the East Division standings thanks to stellar play from their top players and a dominant 12-4-2 record at Verizon Center.

Ovechkin has scored 10 goals in the past 10 games, while linemate Evgeny Kuznetsov has 11 points in his last nine. Goalie Ilya Samsonov has won six of seven starts since coming off the NHL COVID list. The Caps boast the fourth-ranked offense in the league, and the defense is improving with only eight goals allowed in the past six games.

The Rangers have won three of their past four games, but they could be dealing with some fatigue after playing against the Flyers on Saturday afternoon. Igor Shesterkin got the start against Philadelphia, which means it’ll either be backup Alexander Georgiev or Keith Kinkaid starting against Washington.

The extra day of rest if reason to bet on this red-hot Capitals team Sunday. There isn’t even 24 hours between the Rangers’ game against Philadelphia and their clash with Washington. Bet on the Caps’ top players to keep rolling at home against a fatigued Rangers team relying on a backup goalie.

Pick: Capitals ML (-130)

Blues Bounce Back Vs Ducks

St. Louis will look to get revenge on Anaheim when the two teams rematch at Enterprise Center on Sunday afternoon. The Ducks took the first game on Friday by a 4-1 score despite getting outshot 34-24 by the Blues. John Gibson was fantastic in his return from a lower-body injury, making 33 saves.

St. Louis has lost eight of their past 10 games, but there are signs pointing towards a breakout performance. The Blues have outshot their last two opponents,  Minnesota and Anaheim, by a combined total of 71-35. Prior to Friday’s loss, they had won six straight games against the Ducks.

The Blues didn’t create much traffic in front of Gibson on Friday, which is something that should change Sunday. The Pittsburgh native is one of the league’s best when he’s seeing everything he stops, but the Blues have some big bodies to make his life difficult. Prior to his return from injury, Gibson was struggling with 15 goals allowed in three starts.

The Blues are almost back to full health with the return of Vladimir Tarasenko, Jaden Schwartz and Robert Thomas. They’re a much better team then their recent record indicates and should bounce back against an Anaheim club that has only one regulation win since Feb. 11th. Take Craig Berube’s team on the puck line to respond in a big way on home ice.

Pick: Blues -1.5 (+105)
