The puck drops on Tuesday night for all 32 NHL teams, in the third year of the ‘Frozen Frenzy’, and it brings a skirmish between state rivals in Pennsylvania. The surprisingly upstart Penguins (7-2-1, 8-2 ATS) battle with the Flyers (4-3-1, 5-3 ATS). The hot start has Pittsburgh second in the Metro Division, while Philly is sixth.

Action is set to get underway at 6:00 pm ET from Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with ESPN providing the coverage in the United States.

Penguins vs Flyers Prediction

Many prognosticators expected the Penguins to be one of the worst outlets in the NHL, but they’ve been a revelation, going 7-2-1, winning six of those games by at least two goals (5-0-1 in last six).

Evgeni Malkin is third in league scoring with 16 points, and Sidney Crosby is fifth with 14. They may not keep it up all season, but I love them to continue rolling.

Not only are they scoring the second-most goals per game and have the second-ranked PP, they’re also solid thus far in allowing goals (8th) after being third-worst in that category in 2024-25.

Philly hasn’t been quite so strong in scoring, near the bottom of the league, but they’ve been pretty solid keeping the puck out of their net – but that’s with goaltender Dan Vladar, who is not expected to suit up tonight.

Penguins vs Flyers Starting Goalies

There are unconfirmed reports that the Pens will go with Arturs Silovs between the pipes, which makes sense since time-share goaltender Tristan Jarry played in Monday night’s 6-3 victory over the Blues. Both netminders have been called on in five contests each, and they have very similar GAA and save % numbers.

The Flyers will counter with Samuel Ersson, and not Dan Vladar, and that appears to be a head-scratcher.

On the campaign, Vladar has been far stronger (3-2-0, 1.81 GAA, .932 sv%), where he hasn’t given up more than two markers in five outings. Ersson, meanwhile, is 1-1-1, with a 3.50 GAA and .861 sv%, surrendering at least three goals in all three duels.

Philadelphia is the significant -162 moneyline favorite with Pittsburgh a +136 underdog, despite having the better record this season. The total sits at 6.5, with the under expected to hit at -130, compared to over 6.5 goals being +110. On the puckline, Philly winning by two is +154, while the Pens keeping it within a goal is -185.

Per the NHL odds, the home squad is a somewhat surprising pretty big favorite in this Penguins vs Flyers contest.
