The Detroit Red Wings (28-15-4) visit the Boston Bruins (25-19-2) on Tuesday night in an Original Six showdown. Detroit has won four straight while Boston has taken five of its last six, including a 10-2 demolition of the Rangers on Saturday followed by a 1-0 shutout of Pittsburgh on Sunday.
The Red Wings sit tied with Carolina for first in the Eastern Conference with 60 points. Puck drop is 7:30 PM ET from TD Garden. TNT has the broadcast.
Here’s my Red Wings vs Bruins prediction, along with the latest odds and player props.
Red Wings vs Bruins Prediction
Picks:
- Bruins ML (-130 at FanDuel)
- Under 6.5 Goals (-120)
Detroit is playing the second half of a back-to-back after Monday’s overtime win over Carolina. The Red Wings are just 1-6 in their last seven road games in that spot and 6-14 over their last 20 games on zero days rest. That’s a brutal situational spot against a rested Bruins team that’s been rolling at home.
Boston is 15-8-1 at TD Garden this season and 3-1 in their last four home games. The Bruins are also 3-1 as favorites over their last four. After Saturday’s offensive explosion and Sunday’s defensive gem, they’ve shown they can win in different ways.
When you dig into Detroit’s underlying numbers, the cracks start to show. Over their last 10 games, the Red Wings are sub-42% in Corsi, Fenwick, and expected goals. They’re getting outchanced badly but winning anyway thanks to a 94.14% save percentage. That 1.047 PDO isn’t sustainable, and tonight’s schedule disadvantage could be when it catches up to them.
I’m also taking the under. It’s 5-1-1 in the last seven meetings in Boston and 5-1 in the last five overall between these teams. Detroit’s recent games have been tight, with four of their last five going to overtime. The under is also 6-1 in the Red Wings’ last seven games on zero days rest.
Cam Talbot gets the start for Detroit and has been solid against Boston historically, going 9-5-1 with a .918 save percentage in his last 15 games against the Bruins. But on tired legs in a hostile building, I’m expecting the Bruins to grind out a low-scoring win.
Player Prop Picks
Lucas Raymond Anytime Goal (+245)
Raymond has scored in five straight games against Boston, including both matchups this season. He’s Detroit’s assist leader with 35, but he’s been a Bruins killer when it comes to finding the back of the net. At +245, you’re getting nearly 2.5-to-1 on a player with a proven track record in this specific matchup.
Viktor Arvidsson Over 0.5 Points (+120)
Arvidsson has recorded a point in six straight games at home, averaging 1.2 points per game during that stretch. He’s also recorded a point in six straight against opponents with a winning record. After missing time with two separate injuries in November and December, he’s found his form and scored the lone goal in Sunday’s 1-0 shutout of Pittsburgh. Plus-money on those trends is hard to pass up.
David Pastrnak Over 0.5 Assists (-134)
Pastrnak has recorded an assist in six straight games against Detroit, averaging 1.2 helpers per game in those matchups. He dished out six assists in Saturday’s 10-2 win over the Rangers, so the playmaking ability is obviously there. When the Bruins score, Pastrnak is usually involved.
Red Wings vs Bruins Odds
The Bruins are -130 home favorites, meaning a $130 bet would return $100 in profit. Detroit comes back at +108, offering $108 profit on a $100 wager.
The puck line has Boston at -1.5 (+195). That’s a tough ask against a Red Wings team that’s been in close games all season. Detroit is 10-4-2 in one-goal contests. The +1.5 on the Red Wings is heavily juiced at -238, which tells you oddsmakers expect this one to stay tight.

What to Know Before Betting Red Wings vs Bruins
Monday’s 4-3 overtime win over Carolina was huge for Detroit. Alex DeBrincat led the way with a goal and two assists, including the helper on Andrew Copp’s overtime winner. But the Red Wings were outshot 34-18, including 14-4 in the third period when Carolina rallied from a 3-0 deficit with two power-play goals and a short-handed tally.
Boston’s weekend showed both sides of this team. Marat Khusnutdinov and Pavel Zacha each had hat tricks in Saturday’s 10-2 win over the Rangers, the Bruins’ first double-digit goal game since 1988. Then Joonas Korpisalo stopped all 27 shots in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Pittsburgh for Boston’s first shutout of the season.
Viktor Arvidsson scored the lone goal in that one and has been finding his form after missing time with injuries. He’s riding a four-game point streak heading into Tuesday.
Jeremy Swayman should return to the crease for Boston after Korpisalo’s shutout. Swayman allowed five goals on 23 shots in the teams’ last meeting, a 5-4 Detroit win on December 2nd. The Bruins will also have Morgan Geekie back in the lineup after he left Saturday’s game to tend to a family matter.
