- Read below for my Red Wings vs Leafs picks, odds, and best bets.
The Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs are trying to make headway in a clogged Atlantic Division. Online sportsbooks have currently placed Toronto as -118 favorites in the Red Wings vs Leafs odds.
Detroit is eight points ahead of Toronto in the division standings but both teams are pretty hot of late. The Red Wings are 7-2-1 in their last 10 while the Maple Leafs are 6-2-2. John Gibson is turning back the clock for Detroit while Auston Matthews is doing what he does best – score goals!
Puck drop is set for this game at approximately 7:00 pm ET on TNT and HBO Max from the ScotiaBank Arena in Toronto. Let’s check out the Red Wings vs Leafs picks, odds, and best bets for Wednesday Night Hockey.
Red Wings vs Leafs Picks
Pick 1: Detroit and Toronto Over 6.5 goals (+106 at FanDuel)
My first Detroit and Toronto pick centers on goals. Toronto has been seeing more goals scored in its games. Over the last five contests, a combined 40 goals have been scored. Toronto, even without William Nylander, can put the puck in the net.
Toronto ranks 7th in the league in goals with 165. Detroit is still a respectable 15th at 155. Concern with the Maple Leafs rise with the defense which has allowed 163 goals on the season (24th in the NHL). Predictably, Toronto still has five scorers in double figures when it comes to the goal department. Detroit’s power play is one of the better ones at 25.2 percent led by Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane. Dylan Larkin is no slouch either and has 24 goals, second on the team to DeBrincat’s 26. Goals feel like a good bet Wednesday.
Pick 2: Toronto Maple Leafs ML (-118 at FanDuel)
The fear is that John Gibson keeps on rolling along. Gibson has five straight wins (19-9-1 overall) but two average starts of recent note. See the games against Ottawa and San Jose as somewhat troubling. Now, who starts for Toronto? Will Joseph Woll be extra motivated to get back in the win column after allowing 11 goals in his last two starts? Woll was mercifully pulled after two periods against Minnesota. He faced nearly 30 shots as Toronto was bluntly shelled.
Overall, the two Toronto goalies have been good even when the results have indicated otherwise. Yes, Detroit has a prolific offense but Toronto does as well. This figures to be a very entertaining game that could go to overtime because TNT knows drama.
Detroit Red Wings vs Toronto Maple Leafs Odds
The total sits at 6.5 in Wednesday’s NHL odds with juice on the Over at +106, reflecting some action despite potential further movement to the Under. Toronto is very slight -118 home favorites, with Detroit at -102 looking to steal two points.
In the Stanley Cup odds, the Toronto Maple Leafs are now at +4000 while Detroit surprisingly still remains at +6000 despite the better record. There is still a fascination with betting Toronto here despite their playoff history. Detroit honestly has not made the playoffs in ten years. Again, that is sometimes how the juice tilts err spills.

This is a spot to look into the overtime. Toronto has seen three of its last five games go beyond 60 minutes. Detroit has seen two of its previous four including their last contest against the Ottawa Senators.
When Darryl Sutter once joked “it’s a 3-2 league”, it feels more like a 4-3 league when it comes to the Atlantic Division and these two teams.
Do not look into the previous meetings head-to-head. These teams are different than earlier in the year. Right now, both teams crave goals and intrigue which means a finish in greater than 60 minutes is more likely.
Finally, with Auston Matthews catching fire (goals in four of his last five games), expect him to light the lamp and one can make the case for 2+ goals on Wednesday (+600 on FanDuel). There are several offensive props with the Center Of Attention to consider. Do not forget the 2+ points for Matthews at +172. Good luck!
