Sabres vs Red Wings Recent History

Wednesday night’s matchup marks the second of four regular-season meetings between these Atlantic Division rivals. The Sabres skated to a decisive 8-3 victory when the Red Wings visited Buffalo on October 31.

With the win, Buffalo snapped a four-game losing streak in head-to-head action, while also scoring more than two goals in a game against the Red Wings for the first time in four contests. While the OVER obviously paid out in their latest clash, the Sabres’ scoring woes contributed to a 4-1 run for the UNDER in their previous five tilts.

Buffalo Sabres Betting Outlook

It was another big night for Tage Thompson in Monday’s loss to the Lightning. The mammoth winger scored once and added an assist to record his fourth multi-point game in nine outings, and his seventh of the season.

Thompson was one of 12 Sabres to pick up at least a point on Monday, and the contributions from up and down the lineup have fueled an offensive resurgence that has seen goal production double to 4.75 goals per game after the team averaged just 2.38 goals per game during a preceding eight-game slide.

Alex Tuch has also come to life in the second half of November. The 26-year-old winger has compiled 11 points over his past seven outings, and racked up six points during a four-game points streak on the road. He has also picked up points in each of his past two appearances against the Red Wings.

Detroit Red Wings Betting Outlook

The Red Wings have moved into the hunt for a spot among the top three in the Atlantic Division as a result of their recently ended four-game win streak. The club has been particularly steady on home ice, picking up at least a point in nine of 12 home dates this season, and have held opponents to three or fewer goals on eight occasions. However, this team has also been prone to streakiness, losing four straight just prior to their recent 4-0-0 run while surrendering 4.50 goals per game.

That inconsistency has extended to the Red Wings’ crease. Goaltender Ville Husso is coming off a brutal performance against the Maple Leafs, allowing four goals on 13 shots. And while Alex Nedeljkovic is expected to get the start on Wednesday, he has also struggled, compiling a 4.01 goals against average and .880 save percentage while allowing four or more goals in four of his six starts to date.

Up front, the Red Wings’ offence outgunned Toronto by a wide 44-25 margin, and have now outshot opponents in five of their past six games. The blue line duo of Filip Hronek and Moritz Seider have sparked the attack. Hronek scored six times and added four assists over a six-game points streak that ended with Monday’s loss. Seider was in on both goals against the Leafs, and has now recorded three multi-point performances this month.

Sabres vs Red Wings Prediction

The Sabres have demonstrated they eventually break down under the weight of offensive pressure that the Red Wings can exert. Getting betrayed by bad goaltending remains a constant concern for the Red Wings, but this team looks to have maintained enough momentum to spark another win streak on Wednesday night.

The Pick: Red Wings -1.5 (+180)
