  • The Avalanche are heavy -395 moneyline home favorites over the Sharks on Wednesday, Nov. 26th
  • Colorado is tops in the NHL with a ridiculous start to the season
  • See my Sharks vs Avalanche predictions below, plus prop pick and lineups

The puck drops on Wednesday Night, featuring an absolutely dominant Avalanche squad that is tops in the NHL versus the upstart Sharks, who are more than holding their own after a string of bad seasons.

San Jose is just two points out of a playoff spot in the West (11-9-3, 17-6 ATS), while Colorado (16-1-5, 13-9 ATS) have a leg up on everyone, after their incredible first quarter of the campaign.

Action is set to get underway at 9:00 pm ET from Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, with ESPN+ providing the coverage in the United States.

Sharks vs Avalanche Prediction

Colorado is the favorite in the Stanley Cup Odds at +500, while San Jose is a gargantuan +50000 longshot.

Historically, this matchup is as one-sided as it gets, with the Avs smoking their adversaries in 16 of the last 18 meetings, and they had won twelve straight before this season. However, San Jose finally got off the schneid on November 1st, finally capturing a win vs Colorado, 3-2 in OT.

With zero value on the Avs moneyline (winners of eight straight), and even the puckline not that appealing, I’m selecting under 6.5 goals in this one. In the previous seven duels, five have resulted in six or fewer combined goals. San Jose hasn’t been lighting the world on fire offensively, with eleven of their last twelve battles going under 6.5 goals, plus that’s happened in seven of Colorado’s last eleven tilts.

This contest features the top-two point getters in the league, with Nathan MacKinnon tops with 37 points (tied for goal lead with 17), and 2024 first overall pick Macklin Celebrini pacing the Sharks with 34 points (tied with Connor McDavid).

While 11 players have double-digit point totals for Colorado, it’s eight for SJ, but their second and third highest outputs are well behind Celebrini, with Will Smith’s 21 and William Eklund’s 14 points.

The goaltending matchup hasn’t been confirmed as of posting, but it’d be shocking if the Sharks didn’t use their starter in Yaroslav Askarov (8-5-1, 2.83 GAA, .913 save %), while this might be an opportunity for the Avalanche to get a nod for backup Mackenzie Blackwood (3-0-1, 2.47 GAA, .911 save %). He shut out the Preds two games ago, then tandem partner Scott Wedgewood pitched his own shutout Sunday versus the Hawks.

18.1% (19th)Power Play15.7% (25th)
80.3% (16th)Penalty Kill87.0% (3rd)

The Avalanche have been otherworldly, leading the NHL in points, goals per game and markers allowed, with a fantastic penalty kill. The only nitpick is a strangely suspect power play, while the Sharks aren’t especially impressive in any categories. However, they’re still in the midst of a rebuild, and there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel with a better-than-expect output through the first quarter of the campaign.

Sharks vs Avalanche Prop Pick

  • Macklin Celebrini Over 0.5 Goals (+180)

For a prop bet, I’m going with Sharks sophomore superstar Macklin Celebrini to light the lamp. He’s done so 14 times already on the season, which is tied for third most in the league. He recorded a snipe his last skirmish versus Boston, and has scored in two of three career games vs the Avs, including this season.

If you want to get spicy and parlay the under 6.5 goals total coming to fruition plus Celebrini to record a goal, that total pays out a cool +450.

San Jose comes back as a +310 underdog, while the total currently sits at 6.5 goals at DraftKings. The implied win probability of COL at -395 is 79.8%. Per the NHL odds, the home squad is a heavy favorite in this Sharks vs Avalanche contest. Our SBD formula has Colorado coming out on top 3.69-2.73, which points to the Sharks covering the +1.5 spread and under 6.5 goals being scored. The latter dovetails perfectly with my prediction.
