- The over has hit in four straight Stars-Avalanche meetings, including a 5-4 shootout on March 6
- Dallas is 14-2 over its last 16 games, while Colorado has dropped two straight at home

The Dallas Stars (40-18-9) visit the Colorado Avalanche (43-11-12) Wednesday night in a rematch of one of the best games of the season. These two split the season series 1-1 so far, and their March 6 meeting needed a shootout to settle after nine combined goals.
Colorado has lost two straight at Ball Arena (3-1 to Winnipeg, 7-2 to Pittsburgh) and is dealing with injuries to Artturi Lehkonen and Ross Colton. Dallas is coming off a 6-3 loss in Utah on Monday, but had won three straight before that.
Puck drop is at 9:30 pm ET on ESPN. Here are my Stars vs Avalanche prediction, prop picks and odds.

Stars vs Avalanche Prediction
- Over 6 Goals (-120 at BetMGM)
These two combined for nine goals in a 5-4 shootout on March 6, and my Stars vs Avalanche prediction is betting on more of the same. The over has hit in four straight meetings between these clubs.
I lean Colorado on the side, but the total is the sharper play. Both teams rank top-five in goals per game — Colorado leads the NHL at 3.73 and Dallas is fifth at 3.45. The Avs are coming off a 7-2 loss to Pittsburgh where their defense collapsed, and Dallas just allowed six in Utah. Neither team is defending well right now, and the numbers across the board back the over.
Stars vs Avalanche Key Stats
Colorado generates nearly 34 shots per game (first in the NHL) while Dallas barely clears 26 (27th). But Dallas converts at the highest rate in the league (13.31% shooting percentage), which is why they’re still fifth in scoring despite being outshot most nights.
The special teams gap is wild — Dallas has the second-best power play at 29.6% while Colorado ranks 30th at 15.8%. Both penalty kills are strong, but if this game gets chippy, the Stars have the edge with the man advantage.
Stars vs Avalanche Prop Picks
- Martin Necas Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-137 at FanDuel)

I’m opening my Stars vs Avalanche prop picks with a forward who had five shots on goal and four points in the March 6 meeting.
Necas has 160 shots on goal in 62 games this season (2.58 per game) and has cleared 2.5 in four of his last six. He ripped five shots on goal against Dallas on March 6 in the 5-4 shootout and leads the Avs with 31 goals on the season.
The 27-year-old is averaging over 21 minutes of ice time with four-plus minutes on the power play. At -137, this is a fair price on a guy shooting with this kind of volume against a team he just torched.
- Thomas Harley Over 1.5 Shots on Goal (-117 at DraftKings)

Rounding out my Stars vs Avalanche prop picks, I’m going with the over on Thomas Harley’s shots on goal.
Harley has been on a shooting tear, totaling 10 shots on goal over his last three games (4 vs Utah, 3 vs Detroit, 3 vs Edmonton). He’s logging 23 minutes of ice time per game and scored the OT game-winner against Detroit on March 14.
The 24-year-old only had one shot against Colorado on March 6, but his recent volume has been trending up sharply. He’s cleared 1.5 in six of his last 10 games overall, and at -117, this is a good price on a defenseman firing from the point.
Stars vs Avalanche Odds
Odds as of March 18 via consensus sportsbooks. New customers can use the DraftKings promo code and bet on tonight’s NHL odds.
The Stars vs Avalanche odds should have Colorado as a moderate home favorite, with Dallas somewhere around the +120 to +140 range on the moneyline. Colorado leads the Western Conference and is 23-6-1 at Ball Arena when Blackwood starts.
Dallas has been incredible on the road (14-2 last 16), but they’re still underdogs in Denver against a team fighting to lock down the top seed.
Stars vs Avalanche Trends
Recent Stars vs Avalanche Meetings
These two just don’t play low-scoring games. The last five meetings have produced an average of 8.6 combined goals, with the over hitting in four straight. Both regular-season meetings this year went to a shootout with identical 5-4 scores.
Dallas is 14-2 over its last 16 games and 5-0 in its last five road contests. The Stars are also 6-0 in their last six road games against teams with a home winning percentage above .600. Colorado is 6-1 in their last seven games following a home loss by three or more goals, which is worth watching after the 7-2 loss to Pittsburgh.
For Stanley Cup odds purposes, this is a potential Round 2 preview. Colorado leads the conference while Dallas is three points back in second place in the Central Division. Check the latest standings movement with our NHL Playoff Bracket.
