The Dallas Stars (27-10-9) visit the Anaheim Ducks (21-21-3) on Tuesday night in a matchup of teams heading in opposite directions. Dallas has points in three straight after beating the Kings 3-1 on Monday. Anaheim is mired in a nine-game losing streak that’s dropped them out of playoff positioning for the first time this season.

This is the third and final meeting between the clubs. They split the first two, with each team winning on the road. Puck drop is 10:00 PM ET from Honda Center. TNT has the broadcast.

The Ducks have been a disaster lately. They’ve allowed at least five goals in seven of their nine losses during this streak, and Lukas Dostal has surrendered four or more in each of his last six starts. He’s posting a .854 save percentage and 4.32 GAA over that span. Against Dallas specifically, Dostal owns a .797 save percentage and 5.74 GAA in his last three meetings.

Dallas is playing the second half of a back-to-back, but the Stars are built for this. They’re 16-5 over their last 21 games on zero days rest and 15-4-6 on the road this season. Casey DeSmith gets the start after Jake Oettinger stopped 24 of 25 against the Kings on Monday. DeSmith is 10-2-5 with a .911 save percentage and made 22 saves in the 8-3 win over Anaheim last month.

The over is where I’m most confident. It’s hit in eight straight Ducks games and 11 of their last 12 at home. For Dallas, the over is 6-0-1 in their last seven following a win. The head-to-head history supports it too, with the over cashing in the last three meetings between these teams. Anaheim ranks 30th in expected goals against and 31st in save percentage. The goals are coming.

Player Prop Picks

Wyatt Johnston Anytime Goal (+170)

Johnston has been on a heater. He’s scored in four of his last five games, netting five goals during that stretch, and has three goals in his last three games against Anaheim. At +170, you’re getting solid value on a player who’s been finding the back of the net consistently.

Matt Duchene Over 0.5 Points (+120)

Duchene thrives in back-to-back situations. He’s recorded a point in seven of his last eight games in the second half of a back-to-back, averaging 1.6 points per game in those contests. Plus-money on an 88% hit rate in this exact scenario is too good to pass up.

Mason McTavish Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (+142)

McTavish has been firing at will at Honda Center. He’s cleared this line in five straight home games, averaging 4.4 shots per game during that stretch. The Ducks might be struggling, but it’s not for lack of effort from their young center.

Stars vs Ducks Odds

The Stars are -120 road favorites, meaning a $120 bet would return $100 in profit. That implies a 54.5% win probability for Dallas. Anaheim is +100 at home, offering even money on an upset.

The puck line has Dallas at -1.5 (+195). The Stars are 12-4 in the last 16 meetings and 6-2 in Anaheim over the last eight, so there’s historical precedent for a multi-goal win. But on the second half of a back-to-back, I’m sticking with the moneyline.

Lukas Dostal will be in net for the Ducks and desperately needs a bounce-back performance. He’s allowed four or more goals in six straight starts, posting an .805 save percentage over his last 10 games. His goals saved above expected during that stretch is -11.1, second worst in the league behind only Elvis Merzlikins.

Jamie Benn is back in the lineup for Dallas after missing three games with a facial injury. He played in Monday’s win over the Kings. Troy Terry is a game-time decision for Anaheim after missing two games with an upper-body injury. He participated in the morning skate Tuesday.
