Habs’ Price Continues To Shine 

Montreal is up 2-0 on Winnipeg primarily due to the play of goaltender Carey Price. The 33-year-old has stopped 57 of 60 shots in the series, including a 30-save shutout in Game 2. Montreal won 1-0, but Winnipeg pressed hard in the final period and forced Price to make 14 saves.

Price ranks fourth among all goalies with a .935 save percentage this postseason and hasn’t allowed more than three goals since Game 2 of the first round against Toronto. The Habs remain one of the lowest-scoring teams in the playoffs, but they don’t need to set the world on fire offensively if Price keeps playing at this level.

Jets’ Offense Struggling In Scheifele Absence

Winnipeg is already feeling the effects of losing their top scorer to suspension. The Jets were shutout by Montreal in Game 2 in what was their first playoff game this year without Mark Scheifele. Winnipeg’s leading scorer was handed a four-game suspension for charging Canadiens’ forward Jake Evans at the end of Game 2.

Winnipeg has the weapons to carry the load in load in Schefiele’s absence, but there’s no denying his impact on the offense. Scheifele sustained a season-ending injury in Game 1 of Winnipeg’s 2020 playoff run and the team managed just six goals in four games during his absence. It’s also concerning for Winnipeg that second-line center Paul Stastny has yet to play this series due to injury.

Montreal’s Home Ice Advantage? 

Montreal will have home-ice advantage for the first time this series in Game 3 on Sunday. Approximately 2,500 fans are allowed into the building to watch Montreal playoff games. The Canadiens beat the Maple Leafs in Game 6 with fans back in the building, but had lost four straight home games prior to that.

The fans will definitely provide a boost to Montreal in Game 3, but the line may be a tad inflated due to this perceived advantage. Montreal only went 13-11-4 at Bell Centre during the regular season and the Jets were one of the better road teams with a 17-10-1 record.
