The good news for Czechia and Denmark is that their Olympic dream is still alive. The bad news is that the winner of their qualifying matchup on Tuesday will draw Canada in the quarterfinal.

Nevertheless, that’s a future problem, and one online sportsbooks expect Czechia will have to face. They’ve pegged the Czechs as sizeable moneyline favorites over the Danes, with Czechia also laying 2 goals on the puckline. The ladder market is one I’m looking to bet, as I believe we’re not giving Denmark nearly enough credit.

Puck drop is set for 10:40 am ET at the Milano Santagiulia Arena, with USA Network providing the broadcast coverage.

Here is my Czechia vs Denmark prediction, along with the lineups and latest betting odds for Tuesday, Feb. 17.

Online sportsbooks are basing this line on pedigree, and not recent form. Czechia has severely underperformed in this tournament, losing badly to Canada in their opener, and then dropping an OT decision to Switzerland in their finale.

The Czechs have managed just 9 goals through three games, but take that with a grain of salt since 6 of those came against France, who surrendered the most goals in the round robin. The lack of production is baffling, as this team isn’t light on NHL talent. David Pastrnak headlines a group of talented forwards, along with Martin Necas and Tomas Hertl.

The big issue plaguing them is a lack of quality scoring chances. Czechia is averaging just 9 high danger scoring chances per game, which is six less than tournament leader Finland. The Danes do an excellent job limiting those types of scoring opportunities, yielding only 10 inner slot attempts per game. On the bright side, the Czechs have the fifth-highest Corsi For % through three games, but despite dominating possession, they’ve struggled to fill the net.

While the offense has been underwhelming, the goaltending and defense have been a major disappointment. Only Italy and France have yielded more goals, while starter Luka Dostal has posted an underwhelming .861 save percentage and 4.47 GAA.

Contrast that with Frederik Andersen for Denmark, who boasts a .918 save percentage and a 2.58 GAA through two starts. The Danes surrendered less goals than Czechia during the round robin, while scoring just one fewer.

Denmark isn’t loaded with much NHL talent, but that hasn’t stopped them from staying competitive. They were within one goal of the Americans in the third period of their 6-3 loss, and took down an underrated Latvian team. Denmark also held the high powered Germans to only 3 goals, and have a better Corsi For % than three teams seeded higher than them following round robin play.

Nikolaj Ehlers and Lars Ellers are their most dangerous offensive threats, while Andersen gives them the stability in net to keep this matchup close. Nothing we’ve seen from Czechia so far suggests they should be laying 2 goals in this situation, so I’m going to confidently bet Denmark +2 expecting a close game.

Czechia vs Denmark Lineups

As for the Czechia vs Denmark lineups, there are no major injuries to report. Although not official, Dostal and Andersen are expected to start, with the former looking to regain the NHL form he flashed prior to the Olympic break.

Since the calendar flipped to 2026, Dostal is 8-4-0 with a 9.15 save percentage, and 2.50 GAA in Anaheim. He’s backstopped the Ducks to a Wild Card position in the Stanley Cup odds, and will need to play the best hockey of his life for Czechia to put itself in position for their first Olympic Hockey medal since 2006.

Odds as of Feb. 17 at BetMGM. Check out SBD’s BetMGM bonus code to bet on Olympic hockey this week.

As of Monday afternoon, the best place to bet Denmark +2 is at BetMGM. They’re offering that line at -114 odds, while most books like DraftKings and FanDuel have dropped the puckline to 1.5.

Czechia is currently a -416 moneyline favorites, with the Danes coming back as +325 underdogs. Total-wise, the over/under sits at 6, and I’d be willing to bet the under given how poorly the Czechs have performed offensively, and how well Andersen has played in between the Denmark pipes.
