It’s do or die for Finland (2-0-1) and Switzerland (3-1-0) as they’re set to square off in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Winter Olympics men’s hockey tournament on Wednesday in Milan.
Switzerland will be looking to build on a shutout victory over Italy in the qualification round, while Finland has responded well from a loss to Slovakia in their opener, winning two in a row by a combined score of 15-1.
The winner of this matchup will advance to the semi-finals and earn the opportunity to play for a medal, while the loser will be sent packing.
Puck drop is scheduled for 12:10 pm ET and can be watched on Sportsnet and Peacock.
Finland vs Switzerland Prediction
- Pick: Finland -1.5 (+114 at FanDuel)

Finland is known for its structured, hard-working style and commitment to a 200-foot game. We’ve seen that on full display through three contests. They have allowed only 14 inner slot shots, the fewest of any team in the tournament.
The Finns really don’t give up much defensively. When they do, they’ll be able to rely on Juuse Saros. He has allowed only four goals on 74 shots (.946 save percentage) and owns a Goals Saved Above Average total of +2.62, ranking him 2nd among all netminders.
Switzerland does have a few star players on their roster, but they lack depth. The injury to Kevin Fiala also takes one of their gamebreakers out of the mix, making them an easier team to match up against.
Finland will look to use Miro Heiskanen and Esa Lindell against Switzerland’s top line as much as possible, limiting their offensive ceiling. Unfortunately for the Swiss, there aren’t many players who can produce lower in the lineup.
Add in the rest advantage for Finland, and the potential for an empty-netter or two in an elimination game, and Finland is intriguing puck line play.
Finland vs Switzerland Props
Mikko Rantanen Anytime Goal (+160 at FanDuel)
Rantanen is the most talented and productive player on Finland’s roster. He is skating on the top line, the No. 1 power play, and leads the team in scoring chance contributions – serving as the driving force for the offense. He should have the puck a lot and will generate plenty of opportunities to score along the way.
Roope Hintz Anytime Goal (+210 at FanDuel)
Switzerland allowed the 5th-most slot shots in the group stage. They gave up a chunk of good looks around the net, and might be a little looser defensively due to fatigue after playing in an extra game Tuesday. Hintz does a lot of his damage around the net-front; it’s a good spot for him to get his first of the tournament.
Finland vs Switzerland Odds
Finland carries -215 odds to win the game, implying a 68.3% chance of victory. While I do think there’s a little meat on the bone there, I prefer the spread due to the excellent team defense of Finland and the chances of tacking on an insurance marker with an open net if the game is close.
The total is set at 5.5 and juiced to the under. I think it’s more likely than not this game features five goals or fewer, but I don’t see much value at that price, especially with the empty-net potential. Either team will be aggressive with the empty-net if trailing.
