Team USA rolled Latvia 5-1 in their Olympic opener Thursday, and now they turn their attention to Denmark in a Group C matchup Saturday afternoon. The Danes dropped a 3-1 decision to Germany and are massive underdogs in the latest Olympic hockey Odds.

Puck drop is set for 3:10 pm ET from Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena. You can catch the action on USA Network and Peacock.

Here are my USA vs Denmark prediction and picks, plus the latest odds, spread and prop picks for Saturday’s Olympic hockey matchup.

USA vs Denmark Odds

Bet TypeUSADenmark
Puck Line-3.5 (-170)+3.5 (+145)
Moneyline-3500+1500
TotalO 6.5 (-115)U 6.5 (-105)

The USA vs Denmark spread is set at 3.5 goals, with the Americans laying -3.5 at -170 odds. Kalshi prediction markets are pricing a USA win at 96 cents, which translates to a 96% implied probability. That lines up with BetMGM listing the Americans as -3000 moneyline favorites.

You obviously can’t touch the USA moneyline at -3500. That price isn’t even worth parlaying. The spread is where the action is, with Denmark +3.5 sitting at a fishy +145 number designed to lure dog bettors. The total is set at 6.5 goals, with the over carrying slightly juicier odds at -115.

The biggest news heading into Saturday is that Denmark coach Mikael Gath confirmed he won’t start Frederik Andersen. That’s a clear signal from the Danes that they’re punting this game to save their best goaltender for a more winnable matchup against Latvia on Sunday.

On the surface, sitting your NHL-caliber netminder against the Americans should mean more goals. But I actually think it reinforces the under. Denmark is going to pack it in defensively, clog the neutral zone and try to survive. They did that against Germany and still outshot them 38-26, but only managed one goal. Their offense dried up when it mattered.

USA’s opener against Latvia is a solid blueprint for how this could play out. The Americans scored five, but had two goals called back after review and hit the post multiple times in the first period. They controlled every aspect of that game, yet still landed under 6.5. I expect a similar script here.

Denmark’s offense runs primarily through Nikolaj Ehlers and Oliver Bjorkstrand, who are more complementary depth pieces on their NHL clubs than top-line drivers. If USA contains those two, scoring opportunities dry up fast.

Oscar Molgaard, the 20-year-old Seattle Kraken prospect, scored Denmark’s lone goal against Germany, but expecting consistent production from the rest of the Danish lineup against this American blueline is a stretch.

On the other end, USA doesn’t need to trade chances recklessly. They want goal differential for a potential first-round bye, but they can pile up a 4-0 or 5-1 lead without this game turning into a track meet. Connor Hellebuyck was rock solid in the opener, stopping 17 of 18 shots, and whoever starts Saturday should keep the Danes off the scoreboard for most of the night.

I see the most realistic scorelines being 4-0, 5-0, or 5-1, all of which stay under. Give me the under 6.5 at -105 as my best bet.

If you want exposure to the blowout angle, I like USA to cover the 3.5-goal spread as well. The Americans have four scoring lines. Denmark does not. USA outclassed Latvia 5-1 and probably should have had seven or eight, while Denmark surrendered three to Germany and couldn’t keep up with high-end skill.

The tournament format matters here too. The top team in each group and the best second-place finisher earn a first-round bye, so USA has every incentive to run up goal differential rather than coast. If the Americans get to four, Denmark likely tops out at one.

USA vs Denmark Prop Picks

Nelson was the star of USA’s opener, potting two goals and nearly completing a hat trick before one was called back for goaltender interference. He showed instant chemistry with Jack Hughes on what was technically the fourth line, which tells you everything about the depth of this roster.

Denmark is going to collapse deep to protect the middle of the ice, and that’s where Nelson thrives. He’s a net-front presence who finishes around the crease, and the Danes don’t have an NHL-caliber defenseman on their entire roster. That’s a mismatch I want to exploit.

Hughes picked up two assists in the opener and looked far more comfortable than he did at the 4 Nations Face-Off last February. He was the most encouraging player on the ice for the Americans beyond Nelson, running that fourth line with elite playmaking ability.

USA should control possession for the majority of this game, and Hughes will have plenty of chances to set up teammates. Denmark’s defense is older and should be overwhelmed by his pace.

  • Auston Matthews Power Play Point (Odds tbd)

Matthews scored on the power play against Latvia, and I’d be surprised if USA doesn’t get multiple man-advantage opportunities against the Danes. Denmark committed a power play penalty that led to Germany’s third goal, and the skill gap with USA’s power play unit is even wider.

With Matthews, Jack Eichel, Brady Tkachuk and the Hughes brothers all capable of PP time, the Americans’ power play should be lethal. Matthews is the captain of this team, and he’s going to get his looks.

USA vs Denmark How to Watch

Puck drop for Saturday’s Group C matchup is set for 3:10 pm ET from Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena in Milan, Italy. You can stream the game on Peacock and watch on USA Network.

Denmark needs a result against Latvia on Sunday to have any real shot at advancing, so don’t expect the Danes to empty the tank here. USA will control this one from start to finish.
