  • NASCAR’s Great American Getaway 400 takes place at the Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania
  • Shane Van Gisbergen won the pole, but Ryan Preece and Ross Chastain were very close
  • Below, see my NASCAR Great American Getaway 400 odds, predictions, picks, and longshots worth betting.

Pocono Raceway is a 2.5-mile oval-shaped course with three turns where things can happen out of nowhere. There is a reason why the “tricky triangle” can get ugly. The race should last around 3 1/4 hours, and the stage setup is 30-65-65. Denny Hamlin brought home the pole, and seven Toyota cars qualified in the Top 11. However, what will happen after 160 laps on Sunday afternoon as the temperature and track heat up?

The table below lists the Great American Getaway 400 odds (winner, top three, and top five) for the favorites and a few racers who could get into the checkered flag mix. Further down in the article, I have listed my Pocono predictions and longshots worth taking a second look at.

At +340 odds, the implied probability for Denny Hamlin to win the race is 22.73%. Ryan Blaney and Tyler Reddick roll in at +750 (11.76%), with William Byron and Christopher Bell (+900) close behind. Kyle Larson stands at +850 for this race, but it’s till +450 in the NASCAR Cup Series odds. William Byron (+500) still looms to challenge for the Cup Title.

NASCAR Great American Getaway 400 Predictions

The weather will be hot on Sunday. The weather forecast banks on a mix of sun and clouds on Sunday afternoon and evening. Race conditions may deteriorate with tire wear and temperatures approaching 90 degrees.

Qualifying saw Toyota mostly dominate with Denny Hamlin winning the pole and Chris Buescher right next to him, much like Michigan a few weeks back. Tyler Reddick was 8th, but had some excellent speed in spurts of practice. Data is intriguing on the tri-oval err “Tricky Triangle that is Pocono. Laps led are an interesting prop, but with fewer laps, that may be something to stay away from this week. There is also this.

Again, this is something to keep in mind. No one should be surprised by the usual suspects. Do not worry, I will be referring to this list at the end of the article for some of our longer shots.

With Denny Hamlin back and firing off 52-second laps, he is the favorite. Drivers may not quite have the opening last week as there were several unexpectedly inside the Top 10.

The track at Pocono features three turns, and that is the intrigue. Turn 1 is based on the old Trenton Speedway, which was one of the fiercest old tracks in New Jersey. Turn 2 comes from Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Turn 3 is based on the Milwaukee Mile. Yes, this track feels like three races in one.

Pocono takes a steely resolve to win and a little luck. Just ask Ryan Blaney. After several mishaps, Blaney finally had his time and won the race last year. The Ford turned the tide of results that were dominated by Toyota. Do not look at the Chase Elliott win too long, as that was the year Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch were disqualified for tape.

Now. Toyota has dominated so long here that Denny Hamlin feels like the “it” guy. Could another Toyota crash the party? Could one of those Hendricks find a way? Perhaps, one of the Ford cars further down surprises us all.

Some Pocono Race Longshots Worth Betting On

Again, It is time to have a little fun as I go digging through the longer shots. Last week featured some late chaos, but we got in on the Shane van Gisbergen live bet to win by more than 10 seconds very early, along with a Christopher Bell Top 3.

Anyhow, fuel management returns in earnest on Sunday. Toyota is the favorite (-120) with Chevy (+195) and Ford (+260) lagging behind. One of the longer shots has to be Bubba Wallace who likes longer courses like this and has arguably been more due to win than Tyler Reddick. Wallace rolls in at +3000 because of five DNF’s. There is risk with him, Ryan Preece (+5000) and especially Josh Berry (+10000), who starts at the back along with Wallace. If there is some chaos, these back-of-the-field racers may have a chance.

Good luck and let’s race!
