Serie A football is back after a two-week international break and on Sunday, we’ll have a massive clash between AC Milan and Lazio at the San Siro. The kick-off is scheduled for 12 PM EST. Both sides are unbeaten thus far heading into matchday 3 and sit at the top of the table with six points apiece.

Lazio ran out as 3-0 winners in their last encounter with Milan, but the Rossoneri did come out victorious in the previous two fixtures prior to the defeat in April.

AC Milan Firing on All Cylinders

Milan is off to a fantastic start, collecting wins over Sampdoria and Cagliari. In the process, they’ve bagged five goals and conceded just once. In their most recent match, Stefano Pioli’s men put four past Cagliari in a dominant 4-1 victory, with Olivier Giroud beginning his Milan career in fine fashion with a brace.

The Frenchman, who joined this summer from Chelsea, is currently the leading scorer in the squad and has proven to be a valuable addition in place of the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who should be back on the pitch extremely soon. Giroud also impressed heavily in preseason action and will serve as an imposing figure in the air as always.

A positive sign ahead of Sunday is Milan’s flawless home against Lazio, losing just once in the last 31 games at the San Siro. Giroud will certainly be key once again and there is a possibility that Zlatan is able to come on as a substitute, which would be an added boost to their impressive attack.

Although the Rossoneri haven’t played the toughest oppositions quite yet, this next week will surely be a tall task. Milan takes on Lazio then makes a trip to Anfield mid-week for a Champions League clash before visiting Turin next weekend to face Juventus. This will be a grueling next seven days, but it will prove just how good this team can really be as they seek to make their presence felt in Europe and contend for the Serie A title after a failed attempt in 2020/21.

Clinical Lazio

Lazio has been absolutely deadly in the final third through their first two matches, scoring a Serie A-best nine goals while allowing two. They easily beat Empoli 3-1, then throttled Spezia Calcio on August 28th by a 6-1 scoreline. Ciro Immobile was the star of the show, netting a hat-trick while Felipe Anderson, Luis Alberto, and Elseid Hysaj all found the back of the net.

Maurizio Sarri’s side actually conceded within the first three minutes, but quickly fired back when Pedro found Immobile with a neat through ball which he finished in clinical fashion. The Lazio talisman is off to a smashing start after a terrific campaign last season where he scored 20 goals in 35 league appearances.

Immobile has already bagged four goals and with Romelu Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo now in the Premier League, there’s a clear opportunity for the Italian to win another Golden Boot in 2021/22, having already captured the honors on three separate occasions.

If Lazio can collect a victory on Sunday, it will be just the third time ever they win their first three games of a Serie A campaign. With a boatload of matches left it’s not exactly a huge feat, but it would be a step in the right direction for the club after a disappointing sixth-place finish last season which has put them in the Europa League instead of the UCL.

AC Milan vs Lazio Prediction

This rivalry is always easy on the eyes, with lots of attacking prowess on display. However, both teams haven’t exactly played top-tier clubs quite yet. Milan’s brilliant home record against Lazio is also something to definitely keep in mind for Sunday. With the hosts winning two of the last three meetings, I have to take them to pull out the three points here. The “over” in goals has also been hit in four straight, which means there’s massive value once again.

Pick: AC Milan (+115), Over 2.5 Goals (-148)
