Fresh from a 2-2 draw against reigning champions Barcelona on Tuesday, third-placed Atletico have won four times and drawn twice since the competition’s re-start.

Mallorca are in the drop zone in 18th place but hammered 17th-placed Celta Vigo 5-1 at home for their first win since the resumption of play.

Atletico Chase UCL Place

Diego Simeone’s side have no hope of winning the title with Real Madrid and Barcelona way out in front, but they are maintaining a battle to claim a top four Champions League qualifying spot and lead fourth-placed Sevilla by two points, with fifth -placed Villareal on 54 points.

Atletico are undefeated in 11 games since a 1-0 defeat in the away derby against Real Madrid on February 1st. That run includes six wins and five draws.

They have been particularly impressive since the re-start. After a 1-1 draw on the first day back away at Athletic Bilbao, they won four straight before Tuesday’s draw at Barcelona’s Camp Nou.

Atletico twice came from behind against Barca on Tuesday thanks to two penalty strikes from Saul Niguez.

Mallorca remain five points from safety behind Tuesday’s victims Celta Vigo. Croatian striker Ante Budimir scored twice in that game  to keep alive Real’s hopes of staying up.

They have struggled after winning promotion last season and have been trapped in 18th place since mid-February.

Only Eight Wins for Mallorca

They subsequently lost to fifth-placed Villareal, leaders Real Madrid and eighth-placed Athletic Bilbao while earning a sole point in a 1-1 draw at home against Leganes on June 19th.

They have won just eight games all season while drawing five and losing on 20 occasions and have the worst defensive record in the league after conceding 56 times – while scoring 35 goals.

As they head to the capital on Friday, they also have the worst away record in La Liga with only one win, two draws and 13 defeats. They have scored 13 times on the road but conceded 36 goals.

This contrasts with Atletico’s home record, which is the third-best in the competition.

They have won 10 games at their own HQ while drawing five times and losing only once – scoring 36 and conceding only 10 in the process.

That sole home defeat was a 1-0 reverse against Barcelona on December 1.

There was a 2-0 win for Atletico when travelled to meet Mallorca in September with goals from Diego Costa and Joao Felix.

The top scorer for Atletico this season  Álvaro Morata who has 13 goals, 13. Mallorca’s leading targetman  is Ante Budimir who  has 12.

Pick: Atletico Madrid -1½ (+100)
