With just eight fixtures remaining in the La Liga campaign, the race for a top-four finish is heating up. Atletico Madrid currently sit in fourth, just three points off Sevilla in third place. With this is mind, Atleti will need to find positive results wherever possible if they want to clinch Champions League football for next season.

Valladolid will be the team standing in Diego Simeone’s way as they look to upset the cart and steal three points away from Atletico on the road. This Matchday 30 fixture is the second time this season these two sides will clash, with the first meeting ending in a 0-0 draw.

Atletico Looking to Build Off Previous Victory

It was a disappointing first match back for Atleti, tying 1-1 against Athletic Club last weekend. But they followed up with a convincing 5-0 victory over Osasuna on Wednesday and will be looking for a similar result this Saturday. It’s been an up and down year for Atletico, tying a league-high 13 times this term. But, their backline has been very solid, conceding just 22 goals in 29 matches, which is second-best in La Liga to Real Madrid, who have let in just 20.

Atletico have struggled to consistently score goals this year which is a huge reason they currently sit out of the top three. Simeone’s men have bagged just 1.3 goals per match this term. Their highest scorer is Alvaro Morata, who’s found the back of the net just nine times. Joao Felix hasn’t made much of an impact in his first season in Madrid with just six goals, while Diego Costa has played limited minutes due to injuries.

Despite their form in the final third, the break could have been a positive for Atletico. Morata and Felix both got on the scoresheet against Osasuna and will be eager to continue that same trend against Valladolid.

Valladolid Have Kept Quality Sides at Bay

Despite sitting in 15th place, Sergio Soriano’s squad have played relatively well against top of the table sides. They’ve drawn against Real Madrid, Valencia, and Atletico, while losing by just one goal to Real Madrid, Sociedad, and Sevilla. Since returning to action, Valladolid haven’t lost. They’ve beat Leganes and tied Celta Vigo, taking away four points in two matches as they try to inch closer to the middle of the pack.

Just like their Matchday 30 counterparts, They’ve also been very solid at the back, conceding just 34 goals in 29 matches. Scoring goals has been a problem though, with just 25 this season.

Best Bet

Although both of these teams haven’t tasted defeat yet since league football in Spain returned, I do give Atletico the advantage here. They looked electric in their win over Osasuna and are aware of how important this match is in regards to catching Sevilla who drew against Barcelona. It will be a low-scoring fixture, but Diego Simeone’s side will come out on top.

Pick: Atletico Madrid (-244)
