  • Barca defeated third-tier side Ibiza on Wednesday, booking their ticket to the Round of 16
  • They’re now +175 favorites to win the Copa del Rey this year
  • Does Quique Setien’s side offer the best value?

After a shaky 2-1 win on Wednesday, Barcelona has advanced to the Copa del Rey Round of 16, where they will face fellow La Liga side Leganes next Tuesday. The Catalans should be able to breeze past 19th place Leganes into the last eight with ease.

Atletico Madrid was upset this week by second-tier side Cultural Leonesa, leaving just Real Madrid, Valencia, or Sevilla as the possible threats to Barca’s run at a Spanish cup title. Valencia beat Barca 2-1 in last year’s Copa del Rey Final, but Leo Messi and co. will be hungry to make sure that doesn’t happen again, no matter their opponent.

2020 Copa del Rey Odds

Team Odds to Win Copa del Rey
Barcelona +175
Real Madrid +275
Sevilla +700
Valencia +900
Real Sociedad +1000
Athletic Bilbao +1400
Granada +2000
Villarreal +2500
Osasuna +10000
Rayo Vallecano +10000
CD Badajoz +15000
Cultural Leonesa +15000
Leganes +15000
Mirandes +15000
Tenerife +15000
Zaragoza +15000

Odds taken Jan. 24

Barca is the favorite right now to win the Copa del Rey title at +175, while Real Madrid isn’t far behind at +275. Surprisingly, the current title-holders Valencia, have just +900 odds to win it all again, while fourth-place Sevilla who have impressed this term have the third-best odds at +700.

Barcelona Seeking Copa del Rey Title

The finalists from last season will host Leganes at home next Tuesday, which is the second time they will meet this season. Barca defeated Leganes 2-1 back in November behind goals from Luis Suarez and Arturo Vidal. Antoine Greizmann was the hero on Wednesday for Barca, scoring twice against Ibiza to complete the comeback win after being down 1-0 on the road.

It was a shaky victory for Blaugrana but now they’re one step closer to their 31st Copa del Rey title. It’s important to consider that Messi, Busquets, and Pique didn’t even travel to Ibiza for this Spanish Cup tie. The result could have been a lot more one-sided if they had three of their best players on the pitch.

Setien’s side is currently atop La Liga with Real Madrid, tied with 43 points. They have been in impressive form under their new boss so far as he will face his first real test this weekend against Valencia.

Can Real Madrid Contend?

Zinedine Zidane’s side meanwhile, enjoyed a 3-1 win over second-tier Unionistas earlier this week, setting up a clash with Real Zaragoza next week. It will be no easy match though, with Zaragoza currently fighting for promotion to Spain’s top flight. They beat Mallorca in the round of 32 to advance.

Madrid has been in solid form this year, currently fighting for first place with Barcelona. Despite Zaragoza beating La Liga side Mallorca, Madrid shouldn’t have any serious issues advancing to the quarterfinals of this year’s Copa del Rey. It’s unknown if they would draw Barcelona before a possible final, but Los Blancos is the only side in my opinion who could really pose a threat to their Spanish counterparts in the competition.

Barca is Best Bet

Barcelona has won the Copa del Rey a total of 30 times and has featured in the final in the last six years. They have also won the trophy four times in the last six competitions. Real Madrid has captured the Copa del Rey just 19 times in their history and hasn’t been in the final since 2014 when they lost to Barca 2-1.

Depending on the draw, Madrid is definitely a side who could clash with Quique Setien’s squad in the final. The only other team that I could possibly see in the final with Barca is Sevilla, who is enjoying a fantastic campaign.  But given the Blaugranes’ absolute dominance in the Spanish Cup, they’re definitely the best bet to win it all in 2020.

Pick: Barca +175
