Spain’s most prestigious cup, the Copa del Rey, kicks off on Wednesday and Thursday with the second leg of the semifinals. Barcelona fell victim to Sevilla on February 10th in a 2-0 defeat on the road as they face an uphill climb this week to advance to the finals.

Athletic Bilbao and Levante played an extremely hard-fought first leg earlier this month, with the latter scoring an important away goal as they head into this return fixture on home soil.

Barcelona vs Sevilla Prediction

Barca is the winningest side in Spain in this competition, having captured 30 Copa del Rey trophies in their history. But, they will have a tall task ahead of them against Sevilla at the Camp Nou on Wednesday.

It was a dismal performance earlier this month at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán for Ronald Koeman’s side, failing to score a crucial away goal despite having their fair share of opportunities. However, the Catalans already proved in the last round they’re capable of a heroic comeback.

Down 2-0 to Granada in the quarterfinals, Antoine Greizmann and Jordi Alba netted late in the second half to send the fixture to extra time, where Barca fired home three goals to secure a 5-3 victory and advance to the last four.

From a scoreline standpoint, it was a similar situation as this second leg against Sevilla. It also helps that Barcelona already beat Julen Lopetegui’s side in league play on Saturday by two goals, which is going to give them increased confidence that another positive result is possible this time around.

Sevilla hasn’t been playing great football as of late, losing two of their last three games. They lost 3-2 to Dortmund in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, beat Osasuna last week, then tasted defeat against Barca over the weekend.

If Lopetegui’s men can hold off the Lionel Messi and co., it will be their 10th appearance in a Copa del Rey final, having won five times. It won’t be easy though. Barcelona is hitting their stride, currently on a 15-game unbeaten streak in La Liga and they certainly have the firepower on the attack to put numerous goals past Bono.

A two-goal cushion is by no means a sure thing, therefore Sevilla’s backline must bring their best on Wednesday. Just one away goal for the visitors would also be massive, with leading scorer Youssef En-Nesyri looking to break out of his cold spell in front of goal.

I do believe Barca is going to come out on top here. But, it won’t be enough to send them through to the final because Sevilla is simply not a side that concedes a lot. Also, expect the ‘Over’ 2.5 goals to be hit here.

Pick: Barcelona 2-1 (+700), Over 2.5 goals (-167)

Levante vs Athletic Bilbao Prediction

Somewhat of the underdogs of this competition, both of these sides are around the middle of the pack in La Liga. Just like the first tie, this should be a relatively even fixture.

This is the first time in club history that Levante has even progressed to the semifinals of the Copa del Rey. But, Paco Lopez’s squad has impressed to get to this point. They knocked out a solid Villarreal side in the quarterfinals, while also beating Valladolid in the round prior.

Levante’s form hasn’t been great lately though, going just 1-3-1 in their last five. Lopez’s men have drawn a league-high 11 times this term and 12 if you include the reverse fixture against Athletic. Funny enough, these two sides met on Friday in La Liga action, also playing to a 1-1 draw again.

Bilbao has been a carbon copy of Levante in terms of form as of late, also going 1-3-1. In four of their five previous appearances in all competitions, Athletic has collected 1-1 results. Goals have been few and far between with the exception of a 4-0 victory over Cadiz. However, Marcelino’s side has also been sharp defensively, conceding just four during that span.

Bilbao is no stranger to success in this competition though. They’ve won it on 23 occasions, with their most recent trophy in the 2014/15 campaign. Athletic is certainly the more established side between the two, with the pressure on them heading into this away clash.

This is a tough call here. There isn’t much separating Levante and Athletic Bilbao right now, which makes it an unpredictable fixture. Nevertheless, I’m going with the visitors to advance to their 38th final just a month before they take on Real Sociedad in the 2020 title match that was postponed from last season.

Also, given the lack of productivity on the attack in recent appearances for these teams, the ‘Under’ is a safe bet.

Pick: Athletic Bilbao (+123), Under 2.5 Goals (-127)
