- On Wednesday, July 29th, Brentford will host Swansea in the second leg of their Promotional Playoff battle
- The first leg was won by Swansea thanks to a late lone Andre Ayew goal, and the Swans are ever so close to capping off their Cinderella story
- Currently, the favorites in the second leg are Brentford with moneyline odds of -175
This Wednesday, we will find out who will make it to the English Championship Promotional Playoff Final between Brentford and Swansea. Fortunately for Brentford, this match has two legs. The underdogs, Swansea, were able to achieve victory in the first leg thanks to Andre Ayew’s seasoned finishing. However, away goals do not matter in the Promotional Playoffs, which makes this fixture all the more interesting.
The two teams have been able to prepare for a few days once again. Brentford now realize that despite their advantage in the table, they are not all that much better than the Swans. Swansea have been playing some sublime football since the restart and will now be looking to go from sixth place in the Championship to a spot in the hallowed Premier League once more.

Three Losses in a Row For Brentford
After their loss against Swansea, the Bees have now lost three consecutive matches to Stoke, Barnsley and the aforementioned Swans. Thomas Frank’s side have only been able to squander one goal from those three games despite scoring the most goals in the Championship this year, with a staggering count of 80.

Steve Cooper’s side on the other hand? They have won their last three, with big thanks to Premier League talents such as Ayew and Rhian Brewster who is on loan from English victors, Liverpool. The two have combined for 26 goals and seven assists this season. Why is that statistic mind-boggling you might ask? Brewster has only been at the club since January. There is no doubt that both players will be pestering a leaky Brentford defense on Wednesday.

Rico Henry Red Card Overturned
Additionally, a major factor affecting this match was going to be the absence of Rico Henry for Brentford. Henry is the first-choice left-back and has made 47 starts for the Bees this season, quite incredible for a 23-year-old. After his red card on July 26th, it looked as if Andre Ayew would be able to exploit that left side in the second leg. However, in a surprising turn of events, the red card has been overturned by the FA.

This will be a huge boost for a Brentford side that needs a big push to gain access to the Promotional final. In turn, it will help their already struggling defense muster up enough strength to advance. Brentford will only need to score one and this match will be game on.
Best Bet
Finally, the best bet for this match is the under on total goals at 2 1/2 (-104). These odds are quite fair, and given how the last match played out, seems very likely. Swansea will pack it in, in the back to assure their lead is preserved. Brentford will surely be looking for a goal but their recent form does not support the claim that they will find one. It is hard to tell who advances in this semifinal, but one thing looks glaringly clear, that this game will hit the ‘Under’.
My Pick: Under 2 1/2 total goals (-104)
