The 2020/21 Bundesliga season is nearing its conclusion. Friday, April 23rd starts off Bundesliga Matchday 31 of the campaign, and while Bayern Munich are as good as confirmed as champions and Schalke have already been relegated, there’s plenty of play for in the final weeks of the season. The competition for European places is fierce.

Augsburg and Koln play on Friday night before Wolfsburg, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt are in action on Saturday. Out of form Leipzig and seventh-placed Borussia Monchengladbach have winnable matches on Sunday.

Wolfsburg vs Dortmund Prediction

Five points separate Wolfsburg in third and Dortmund in fifth entering Bundesliga Matchday 31. Dortmund have bounced back from a poor run with three wins in three matches. They will be just one point off the top four by the end of the weekend if they win this match and Bayer Leverkusen gets the better of Eintracht Frankfurt.

Wolfsburg had lost consecutive league matches before they beat Stuttgart in midweek. They have lost their last five against Dortmund, including a 2-0 defeat as recently as January. The hosts have exceeded expectations this season, both relative to most preseason predictions, and by massively overachieving their expected numbers at both ends of this pitch. This is in stark contrast to Dortmund, who are second to only Leipzig in expected points this term.

It’s mixed injury news for Dortmund here. Jadon Sancho should be fit enough to start, but Axel Witsel is out for the season. Veteran center-back Mats Hummels is suspended.

Dortmund have scored in each of their last 41 matches, and that streak should continue even against a sturdy Wolfsburg defense. The return of Sancho to the XI should help Erling Haaland rediscover his goalscoring touch and power Dortmund to a much-needed win.

Pick: Borussia Dortmund moneyline (+112)

Bayer Leverkusen vs Eintracht Frankfurt Prediction

With only seven points taken from the last 15 available, Bayer Leverkusen are in now or never position. Nine points is the gap between Leverkusen and their weekend visitors, who currently occupy the final Champions League spot. Victory on Bundesliga Matchday 31 will put Eintracht Frankfurt in a commanding spot in the battle for a top-four place, and effectively rule Leverkusen out. A home win will liven things up.

Losing to Bayern was hardly a surprise in midweek, but it was still a setback for Leverkusen. It’s been difficult to have a settled team in recent weeks with various positive COVID-19 tests and Julian Baumgartlinger is set for a prolonged period on the sidelines. Frankfurt have their own selection issues with Sebastian Rode suspended, but the Bundesliga’s overachievers have their fearsome attacking duo of Andre Silva and Luka Jovic available.

Bayern are the only Bundesliga team to score more than Frankfurt since the turn of the year. Leverkusen have been inconsistent at home this season, and could be vulnerable against an exciting Frankfurt side.

Pick: Eintracht Frankfurt to win at least one half (-118)

RB Leipzig vs VFB Stuttgart Prediction

One win in four league matches, including a shock loss to Koln last time out, has ended RB Leipzig’s title hopes. Worse than that, though, they are now looking over their shoulders at the chaotic top-four race entering Bundesliga Matchday 31. They are only nine points ahead of fifth with fixtures against Dortmund and Wolfsburg to come. A poor result against Stuttgart on Sunday would put Leipzig under serious pressure heading into the final weeks of the campaign.

Stuttgart are perhaps an ideal opponent for Leipzig. Injuries have massively depleted them, including to Silas Wamangituka, who is out for the season. They have lost three matches in a row, ending any faint hopes of a push for a top-six spot. They have nothing to play for.

Leipzig are winless in three at home, and Stuttgart have fared better on the road, getting six of their 10 wins away. Still, though, this should be an easy home win. Only Koln and Schalke have conceded more than Stuttgart since the turn of the year.

Pick: Leipzig -1.5 (+104)
