After stumbling out of the gate, and posting just one victory over their first five contests, Club America has rediscovered the form that lifted them to the top of last season’s Liga MX table.

The squad has tallied 19 total goals during their current six-match win streak. In addition, America have considerably tightened things up on defense, surrendering just three total goals during their 6-0-0 surge after being outscored by an 8-5 during their season-opening 1-1-3 win-draw-loss run.

Henry Martin has provided the club with their biggest offensive spark. The veteran forward shook the club out of their season-opening funk with back-to-back two-goal performances and has followed up with three markers over the past four matches.

Martin was left off Mexico’s roster in El Tri’s 1-0 loss to Peru in a friendly earlier this week due to injury but is expected to be available on Saturday.

The loss of Martin would be tough news to swallow for America, considering the role he has played in the club’s six-match head-to-head win streak against Tigres in league play.

The 29-year-old has found the back of the net in three of the club’s past five dates with Tigres, potting the match winner on two occasions over that stretch.

While Club America have swung back into form, particularly on the attack, Tigres have work to do to rebound from an offensive slump after scoring just one goal over their past three matches.

Tigres visit America after playing to their second scoreless draw in three outings in last week’s home date with Necaxa.

Overall, opponents have kept clean sheets in three of their past five outings. And Tigres strikers have mustered just three total goals while compiling a middling 2-2-1 record on the road so far this season.

Those trends have done little to boost the club’s fortunes on the Liga MX table, where they now sit below the line in fifth place entering the weekend.

After establishing himself early on as Tigres’ top goalscorer, with three goals in the club’s first five matches, including a pair of match winners, French veteran Andre-Pierre Gignac’s production suffered a sudden drop off as he battled injuries.
